I am experienced with pistol reloading, but new to 223 reloading on Dillon XL 650 press. Will be using Win 748, once-fired and range pick up brass, 55 gr BT bullets from Bulletheads, CCI small rifle primers. I have Dillon XL 650, two tool heads, Dillon carbide 3-die 223 rifle die set, RT1200B trimmer motor and trim/resize die.

First question:
I know that I need to lube cases before going through the re-size, decap, expander die. Do I need to REMOVE the lube before going through the powder-drop station, the bullet seating station, and the taper crimp stations? Instructions with dies mention how important it is to lube before the resize die, but don't say anything else about lube for the other dies, removing lube, etc? I know most guys seem to tumble the lube off before loading powder and bullet. Don't I need lube on the case to run through the bullet seating and crimp dies? If it is a 3-die set for a progressive press, it would seem to make sense that one would put all three dies in the tool head, along with the powder station, and then run lubed cases through from start to finish without removing the lube, until maybe after the rounds are fully loaded. Am I understanding that correctly to mean that one can fully load the cases from start to finish with tumbling to remove the lube?

Second question:
Do I need to have a second expander die to use AFTER the trimmer motor step? I was going to set up the resize, decap, expand die in position 1, then the trimmer motor/resize die in position 3, on one of my two tool heads. I was going to lube, run the case from the casefeeder hopper through the press and then tumble off the lube. then I was going to set up my second tool head as follows: Leave station 1 empty, powder hopper and priming in station 2, powder check in station 3, seat bullet in station 4 and crimp in station five. So, the brass that has been processed in first run through the press would be de-lubed and then run through the second tool head cycle of the press. But if I do it that way I just described, there is no step with expanding the case mouth AFTER running through the trimmer motor. I've seen some YouTube videos about the RT 1200B trimmer, and everyone seems to have a second expander die in the last station of the press after the trimmer, so the cases get decapped, expanded, some re-sizing, then they get trimmed/re-sized, then they get expanded again, all on the first run through the press. Do I need to get a second expander die? Dillon's instructions (page 4) that come with the trimmer motor say that decapping and expanding should be done after the trimming. But decapping can only be done in station 1 of the press. I am so confused!

thanks for any advice you can give me.

Q1, I would clean the lube after the completed round.

Q2, Not familiar with the 1200. But, If the cutting head trims/deburr's at the same time nothing else is required provided the brass shavings are dealt with.

You can run it all the way through with lubed brass, and clean it after loading.

However, if you load GI brass, as I do, you might want to size and trim on the 1200 first, then swage primer pockets, then tumble a short time to remove any burrs from trimming and clean the brass. After this I use an RCBS Autoprime bench mounted priming tool, and only then does the brass go in the Dillon for loading.

Yes this is extra work, but this way I am sure the brass is properly deburred, and the primers properly seated by feel. I can't get this feel with the Dillon.

And I would say no additional expanding die is required after trimming if you are using BT bullets. Otherwise, I would say yes use the expander in the second run.

Lube then Use 1st toolhead with trimmer/sizer. Then tumble to remove lube.
Then put a universal decaper in station 1 of the 2nd toolhead to knock the media out of the flash hole. all other dies in that toolhead as normal.
