Hey guys. This is my first post. I decided to join because this looks like a friendly and more intelligent board than most of the other ones out there. A bit about myself: I'm 27, only owned 2 handgun, and am obsessed with boxing. I have a few questions I wanted to ask you guys that maybe you could help me with. Right now I own a CZ 83 in the 380 cal. I'm looking to get a new gun but want some advice before buying. I would be trading in the one I hace for something new. My frst gun was a CZ 40p, absolutely loved it, but it got stolen from my house in Miami. CZ is like a bad ex girlfriend I just keep coming back for more, but I want to expand my horizons. First I'm looking for one concealable. I like the CZ 75 p07 duty a lot, but I also saw a nice beretta (9x storm or something like that). I've never owned a 9mm, so I don't know how it performs, and it's been a while since i had that .40. I am looking for relatively cheap bullets, which the 9mm qould qualify for, but they've been hard to come by. Is there anyone that owns the cz duty and/or a beretta that can tell me the quality of these guns. If yu have any other gun brands that you like recommend them too. I just want honest opinions, so be opinionated I want to hear it all. Tell me abou the guns youve owned, compare them and also about the performance of the 380, 9 and .40. I appreciate all answers. I see you mentioned the Beretta PX4 Storm. While I am not a 9mm fan my brother ended up with one of those. Literally walked a friend to a pawn shop and bought it for something like $200. Anyway, during a range outing I fired it. Granted that running several magazines through a gun at the range is far from a life torture test but that little pistol was not only fun to shoot but it grouped really well for me. I was actually impressed with the gun. This was a 9mm sub compact version. If one in .40 came along at a good price I might get it.

I've had various CZ's for ten years.

The new P07 just feels cheap to me. I'm used to my beloved P01 and previous 75bd. If you are set on the 40 caliber have a look at the P06.

Edit: I see you're left handed. CZ makes various ambi models you might be interested in.

Usually we just move questions to the most appropriate place if that's indicated, but I wanted to warn you first before that happened since you're new here. You didn't do anything wrong by posting in General, I just wanted to point out that the other subforum will be more focused on the subject of interest to you, and might be a more efficient use of your time.

I love my CZ75B SA, but I wouldn't exactly call it compact. If you aren't satisfied with your 83 for some reason - it is compact, holds a bunch of rounds, but you probably don't like the caliber - then there are smaller CZ pistols that would satisfy. All of them seem to have pretty good reputations. If you can find one in a store, hold it in your hand and see if you like the feel.

That is the biggest deal for most people - if the gun fits, you're likely to shoot it better than one that doesn't.

Well Southpaw, you may want to consider that a boxer named Sonny Liston was shot with a pistol. He was pretty tough and it didn't penetrate into him very far, he survived and healed up pretty quick. It wasn't a .40 as those were not around then. This is quite awhile back as Sonny Liston was in the time of Cassius Clay, I believe Sonny even whipped him in a fair fight. If you run in this tough of crowd the .380 won't be enough for some situations.

My experience is that the 9mm is under-rated. It is pretty fast and enough power. The .380 is a weaker than the 9X19. The .40 is big. You can probably tolerate the .40 fine if you are a boxer, you know you can since you've had one. The 9mm typically is the least expense to shoot/practice with, until this recent Black Swan inventory event.

Concealable means less comfort to fire the 9mm and .40's, they are lighter and have less hand ergonomics. Some are better than others. I believe all the ones you mention would fit you. I would say 9mm or .40 would be an idea since you have the .380 already.

Chris in VA - what exactly felt "cheap" about the p07 duty, was it the fact that it was a poly, cause ive had reserves about tupperwear before.

Robotnik - the 40 had some bite to it, nothing unmanageable by any means. btw Liston was a heavy weight, i fight at the 132 pound class, i think i'd drop faster than he would lol.
 
If you want a nice compact 9mm. and in a CZ then try the P-01. Same great ergonomics and design features as in the full size CZ 75, just in a downsized package.
 
Shoot many; buy one. Many ranges rent guns and it will be money well spent to get a little "hands on" before you commit what to a 27yo might be a goodly sum. Our gun club offers new shooter classes; I'd recommend you check into that prospect in your area.

Our gun club also has numerous guns for use by its member and other shooters. You might can find one like mine that instructs and supplies guns.

Wife and I recently completed a day-long course with our county sheriff's department. The morning session was gun protocols and safety and gun laws; afternoon was two thirty round sessions on the range with each of the thirty or so shooters having their own individual dedicated coach. We used our own guns and ammunition, but if you had neither, the county supplied both. There was no course fee of any kind and a pizza lunch was provided. You might have something similar in your location.
