I have a S&W 629 4" for woods carry. I currently have a nice Galco OWB holster for it but it but it doesn't hold the gun tight to my side, it sticks out like an old west gunslinger.
Anyone have a suggestion for an OWB holster that will hold the gun in high and tight to my side?

Thanks,

Here is what I use.

El Paso 1942. I use it often in the woods with that 629-1 you see in the photo.

I just bought one of his CID ones for my PC 629 and am really really happy with it. I have a pancake on order right now but there are some in the sale area of the site that would fit what you are looking for and are availible now.

I also have one on order from these guys... Have one for another pistol and am very pleased with the work. These two companies products get my vote and money.

Simply Rugged, I'm a small guy and I can effectively conceal my 4" 629 with just a light cover shirt. I've been using mine for two years now and I'm very happy with it. It holds the gun in nice and tight to my body...of course a Milt Sparks or similar high quality gunbelt is necessary.

Another vote for simply rugged, I have the sourdough for my 629, and I went ahead and got the chest straps for it too.

I just received notification that my order for an El Paso Saddlery holster for my S&W 629 4" V Comp PC will be here on 10/10. Photos shortly thereafter.

I have a Simply Rugged Sourdough Pancake for my 4" Redhawk. Not the same gun, but pretty close. ;)

It is quite comfortable, wears well, and is even concealable.

It's an excellent holster, even without factoring in the low cost.

DeSantis "002 44"

"High and tight" for the N frame is exactly what it provides. Carrying high with a forward cant allows concealment of a full sized grip. No retention strap or thumb break. It just fits, covers the trigger and has enough body shield.

Sweating against a wooden grip is probably not the way to go, or you'll need more body shield.

I already have a proper gun belt. I'm looking into all of the suggestions as well as the Galco Combat Master, that I just found out is made for the 629.

The holster I have is the Galco Phoenix. It's well made and is good for a quick draw but I don't like the grips sticking out that far. Even open carrying I prefer to be a little more discreet.

Thank you all for your suggestions.

Simply Rugged does not offer enough forward cant to prevent the bottom of the grip from printing.

I disagree. I have the Sourdough Pancake with carry straps and it is concealable in shorts and a t-shirt.

I'm 5'11" and 200 lbs, if that matters to you. :)

What kind of belt are you using? It can make as much difference in how the sixgun rides as the holster itself. Flimsy department store belts no worky. ;)

I like a good Threepersons for an N-frame.

Not a belt holster, but I woods carry my 4 inch 629 in a Diamond D Guides Choice holster. Puts the gun tight against center chest making for quick access.

I've read some good reviews for the Bianchi model 111 Cyclone. A good tight in holster for strong side and crossdraw both, and available in many different sizes. Hoping to get one for my S&W 696 here in the near future. Should work great for a 4 inch 629.

I had Tex Shoemaker make a pancake holster for me when the 629 5" classic (full lug) was a brand new item. It also fits the 6.5" power port version as well. It looks a lot like the DeSantis model.

I have a Bianchi Shadow II pancake holster for my 4" K frames, it holds the pistol real tight against my body. Not sure if they make it for a N frame, but if so I'd highly recommend it.
