I just bought a new house (3 years old) that has a crawlspace almost big enough to be called a basement. In several areas, I can stand all the way up and I am 6 foot tall. It is clay and very dry and clean. I have a sump pump installed in the lowest corner of the house as well as a vapor barrier (6mm plastic) covering the clay.
I have a battery back-up on the sump in case there is a heavy rain storm and power goes out. The sump is in a gravel pit. The two sections under the house are seperated by a concrete footing. The sump is on the side where i could get the most run off water from the neighbors yard. I plan on constructing the shelter on the side with out the pump because it is very dry. It is plummed to go through a pipe then out to the back yard. I want to make a fall-out/storm-shelter kinda thing down there. Any ideas?
The entry way to it is in my garage and is rather large 30x30 opening with stairs leading down. It is all lighted and I have a generator tied into the receps in case power goes out. I can use quik-rete to make pad for the size i need. I also have a package unit outside that has a filter in the duct work prior to air entiering and leaving the house.
