A neighbor of mine is selling a 12 gauge double barrel shotgun (side by side) with 28"barrel. On one barrel it says Garcia Wash. D.C. on the other barrel it says "made in Braizil". He wants $500 for it, is this a good deal? The gun is in good condition.

Ask to try it out and if it works you might consider buying it. Garcia was an importer, not a manufacturer, and those Brazilian guns were sure not world-beaters, though most worked and are safe enough. IMHO, $500 is too much, but others may disagree.

This is my opinion and my opinion only, I have yet to see a used Brazilian shotgun that's worth more than 250.

I wonder if it is a Boito or a Rossi? $500 is very high especially for a Boito.

Given the D.C. address, I'd guess it's a Rossi.

From Guns and Ammo magazine:

A: Garcia Sporting Arms Corp. in Teaneck, New Jersey, absorbed Firearms International Corp. (importer of Rossi firearms at the time) of Washington, D.C., in 1971 or '72. Garcia became the importer of Rossi firearms and conducted business from the Washington, D.C., address until 1977.

I'd rather have a Savage/Stevens/Springfield 311 for $500. Or a Fox Model B.
