I was at a gun show and saw a Springfield armory M1 garand, I'm tryiing to get information on it. The price was $850.00 I told the guy I would call him back. The receiver has US Rifle Cal 30 M1 Springfield Armory 187XXX. The bolt has 6528287-sa, The barrel had a date of s-a-10-49. The stock has 3 of the same markings behind the trigger guard p with a circle around it. It looks like a 9 on the stock also below the receiver but not sure. I'm trying to find out if this is a good deal but I'm confused with the 1949 barrel with the 1940to 1942 receiver. and I can't put the P on the stock with this time period. Any help would be appreciated.

Most WWII Garands have been rebuilt, sometimes several times, over their service life. It's odd now to find one where all the dates and manufacturers match, and these command a premium as collectors items.

$700-800 is the going price around here (MD) for a serviceable M1 (not the "all original" collectors' item). If the OP doesn't want to go through CMP, he might try making an offer on that rifle.

The new barrel is perfectly OK for a shooter, probably better than a shot out wartime barrel.
