I got the new Manix, but noticed a discoloration of the steel around the spyderco logo, and changing as it goes down the blade. I sent pics to spyderco, who said it was normal for grind lines on a ffg, and that the knife looked fine.

Please let me know if the pics show abnormal tolerances. Thanks.

The discoloration is from applying the etch, however they do it. I wouldn't let that out of my shop, but I guess Spyderco thinks it's OK.

Thanks for the reply. Should I send back? Seems silly but for the price I expected a better finish.

Question is , are you going to use it and scuff it up anyways ? If so , then it won't bother you for long.

If not , then send it back.

What was the price? I don't know what the XLs are going for, but I think the standard Manix 2s with 154CM are a ridiculously good buy, at less than $80 shipped for a practically indestructible knife with premium materials.

It doesn't look like a big deal to me, but like JTW said...

Well, it's going for 105 if you can find it, then there are folks selling higher as they are so hard to find.

For that price, it's going back.

I have a sprint run Manix 2, in S30V, I didn't realize they were producing a regular production version. Is the XL the same knife, as the regular Manix 2, just in S30V?

I agree, the 154CM Manix 2 is a steal. Better knife, and value than the Benchmade Griptilian, and that is saying a lot.

The XL is a different knife completely. It's a bigger knife, and grip. It's actually cpm s30v, and I'd say the regular Manix 2 is more a beauty, the XL is a beast. Xl has a FFG.

By the way, I agree with you on the Griptilian. The Manix 2 just blew me away, so I eyeballed the xl and fell in love. Now to get one with a better finish, but the one I got shouldn't be the norm.

All s_v or _v steels are CPM as far as I can tell. CM (crucible metallurgy) is the company that uses CPM, crucible powder metallurgy. the S_V/_V steels are proprietary.

They have been trickling in slowely. Well, I'll let you know what I get the next one, and post pics.

Got the new Manix XL that BladeHQ sent as a replacement, and it's perfect! I can't say enough about them, really great CS.

Much sharper than the first one also.

I think I'm in love. It's so different than the Manix2, that I'll have a hard time choosing. For now, they are a pretty smooth combo.

Need proof of life on this knife.

We moved, so I couldn't get the pics until now. I love the new one, and can't stop carrying either Manix. What a great design.

Enjoy!

yep. got my Manix 2 with 154CM for $71.00 shipped. great knife for the money and American Made.

I just got my XL yesterday. Yeah, it's a BEAST alright! Mine came well sharpened and done so at a pretty acute angle (must have been about 30 degrees inclusive). I put the finishing touch with the SharpMaker on it as I like a big tough knife like this to be 40.

The blade is not perfectly centered but it does not touch either side so I am OK with that. Sometimes all you need to do is loosen the screws down at the pommel end and torque the thing a little bit and it'll center right up. I may do that but I won't bother fiddling with the pivot screw...I prefer to avoid that and the current tension is just right.

This is one folding knife that you could carry anywhere and not feel you had too little knife...I like that.

Very impressed.
