need input on Mossberg ATR

I have the oppurtunity to buy a mossberg atr in .308. The is right for the package. I just wanted to get some feed back. Has anybody shot one? Did they like it? Does anybody own one? How is the action? Would they recomend it to a friend? Any input would be great:confused:
 
I have one in .270, it has been a great rifle. Using 130gr Federal Nosler Balistic tips the gun will shoot sub 1" groups... The action is very smooth, my trigger is a little heavy ~4lbs or so, it is crisp though... Mine came with the factory scope, if you have the option, pass on the scope, it's a lower end Tasco, not great, but that will be the first thing you'll want to upgrade...
 
Well, they aren't true Howa 1500 actions, but they are unquestionably based on the 1500. The trigger group and bolt come directly from the Howa, with the receiver tubular like the Savage or Remington rifles as opposed to the flat-bottomed Howa. The barrel is mounted like the Savage 110 with a barrel nut, though on the Mossberg, the nut is smooth and so is not as easy to remove by the end user as the Savage.

It is very clearly based on the Howa, which is interesting since Mossberg imported the Howa as the Mossberg 1500 during the 1980's.

Good deal. That is what I wanted to hear. At the end of the day I guess the hogs and deer won't know if it was an A bolt or an ATR.

That is really a good range report jp. Well written and had the results that I was hoping for. Not that I need an excuse to buy another gun, just don't want to buy the wrong one.
 
Hey 3pairs where you at in Texas? I am just south of College Station and have one in .308 and it is a very good rifle. I shoot sub moa groups with Nosler 150gr ballistic Tips. If you are close enough you are more than welcome to come shoot mine.

I am in DFW. Thank you for the offer but I'll have to pass. That is quit a drive for a test fire. I think after reading the reports I have received on here I am just going to get it. Sounds like a great gun with some major bang for the buck. Thanks Guys. I'll report back after shooting it.
