need load for .40

"We, at Rainier Ballistics, recommend using lead bullet load data when loading our bullets. There is no need for adjustment when using lead bullet load data. Our bullets are jacketed using an electroplating process and are softer than traditionally jacketed bullets; hence the recommendation to use lead bullet load data. If you only have access to traditionally jacketed load data, we recommend reducing maximum charge by 10%. A roll or taper crimp may be used with our bullets; do not over crimp."

Seems to me the links above will get you the information your are seeking, especially when you factor in this statement from the Rainier web site. If not, what am I missing?

ok, so from the data on the two web sites, what would be a starting load for each bullet? no lead bullet data is given.

My 2006 Winchester load guide show's 6 grains of 231 for a 155 grain XTP. I'd drop that by another half grain for a plated bullet. For a 165 grain JHP, it show's 5.3 grains, reduce by 10% for a starting load, probably another half grain for a plated bullet. 4.5 grains would be a good starting point, for the 165's.

I load Berrys 155gr flatnose .40 with w231 5.4gr, just don't exceed 1200fps with plated bullets. The recoil is similar to over the counter plinking ammo.

I don't know about using W231 and lighter bullets. I reload .40 using Berry 180Gr bullets and Hodgdon Universal. Like others have said, keep it under 1200fps and you should be fine. I load both Berry's and Ranier bullets using data for FMJ bullets but keep it towards the minimum powder charge.
