I was wondering if anyone has the 9 1/2" Ruger Super Redhawk in the new .480 Ruger caliber and what do you think of this gun's accuracy and performance capabilities? Thanks.

I see alot of them for sale. :)

I am not ready to invest in a possible curio and relic once the .480 ammo market disappears.

The SRH is a solid tank of a gun. .454 casull/45 colt is probably a better bet. Or, I went .44 mag. Plenty for me.

I want one in .454 Casull but I've never actually shot one. My Ruger experiance is with the standard Redhawk and Blackhawks. They have been very durable and accurate.

TheSuper Redhawk is a fine, accurate, very strong revolver!!!

I have had one each in 44 mag, 454 Casull, and 480 Ruger. All fired with outstanding accuracy - the guns are a lot more accurate than my shooting. I bought them because, at the time, I just could not live without that gun! . All are a blast to shoot but as far as versatility is concerned the 454 gets my vote - particularly if you reload. You can shoot the hottest 454 stuff (I really don't know why though), 45 Colt (reloaded from the lightest "Cowboy" loads to stuff that exceeds 44 mag) and anywhere in between. A really fun gun. Don't want to put down the 480 but, as I said, if you reload then I just don't see the niche that the 480 fills. If you don't reload then the 480 lies between the 454 and the 44 mag. Hotter than one and not as hot as the other. Only time will tell if it finds its place in the marketplace. Good shooting;)

Got the 7.5", .44M, great gun. Takes several thousand cycles to smooth up the DA pull, but it does work in. Big heavy pistol, nice platform to experiment with a scope.

My first DA revolver was my 7.5" .454 SRH. It was, to me, slick new, right out of the box. Certainly felt better than the Redhawk .45 Colt, my other choice at the time. Really no comparison... I was attracted to the engineering, both ergonomics and material selection, of the .454 SRH. I have launched hundreds of 1500 - 2100+ ft-lb KE .454's - and thousands of 'Cowboy' loads in .45 Colt. Yesterday I tried a first - some of my own 'Cowboy' loads in .454 brass (Shooting the shorter .45 Colts requires careful cleaning before shooting the longer .454's.). Still a delight to use, it is not quite as slick (It will never be!) as my now-broken-in S&W DA's. With a 2x28mm Weaver H2 atop it, I have shot some 1.5" 5-shot (Gotta write off one flyer...) groups with Hornady 240gr XTP's at 45 & 50 yd from a sandbag (Okay, a smoking sandbag... that cylinder/forcing cone blast is something!). With a fiber-optic front sight, a 'drop-in', it is much easier to aim open sighted.

I wholeheartedly endorse the .454 SRH... great ergonomics, accuracy, and a wide power range in a well-engineered American-made revolver - and less expensive than the imported five-shooter, too.

With the right loads (400gr cast bullets) I would be surprised if the .480 didn't match the .454 in penetration, if not outright beat it, and with substantially less recoil. If you look at the penetration numbers done on Sixgunner where they shot meat and bone, the .475 Linebaugh had the best penetration with loads running at around 1250fps, exactly what the .480 can do with the same weight bullet. There simply isn't anything that the .454 will shoot thru that the .480 won't also, and make a bigger hole doing it.
