I need a high quality, uncopyrighted photo of a Browning Hi-Power or a Colt Detective Special for the cover of a book I'm writing. This is an ebook that will be on amazon and ibookstore.

I can't pay you, but if the royalties exceed $2000 in the first year or so then I'll give you a thank you gift of $200 (more if the royalties are higher). You will also get credited in the book.

Here are the specifics:

1. I only need one photo, either the Colt or the Browning, post a scaled version here.
2. The book is set in 1985, so nothing in the photo that wouldn't be passable for that year.
3. The hi-power must be passable to the casual viewer as a WWII bring back.
4. The hi-power should be pictured in one of the following ways: a) with a tin of kiwi shoe polish (black or brown), b) lying on the grass, c) in a plastic evidence bag lying on carpet or a desk (could include some empty 9mm casings), d) on a tile floor with some empty casings.
5. The colt should be pictured in one of the following ways a) in or next to a leather holster/belt consistent with the time period possibly with ammo, b) lying on a coffee table next to a half eaten tv-dinner lasagna (or similar).

I hope someone can help me. I'll have the cover professionally edited (unlike my current book covers) so it should look really nice.

I've got a really nice prop evidence bag and an HP clone. Might take a little bit to get a really GOOD pic.

You aren't going to find a 1985 era style TV dinner anymore. They are different now.

And, a book cover doesn't have to be so literal anyway.

I have a pic or two of a detective special that you are welcome to.

Just messing around with the camera today.. if you see anything you like drop me a PM. I took a number of pics with my Hi-Power clone, and hopefully it's disguised enough for your taste.

While Dr. Robs pics are extremely well done...and he's to be commended for his efforts to step up and help, much depends upon your definition of "casual". Casual as in the average mutt on the street or casual gun owner...perhaps your more likely reader?

While you can get away with the missing MDS pin, the lack of thumbprint and especially the external extractor on the clone might be enough to stand out to the even "casual" gun owner. Such readers might not be able to quote adoption/deletion dates of such features, but it might be just enough to cause a "Something's wrong here?" response. I understand the "good enough" for a book cover concept...we've all seen covers with downright fake "replica" guns, but judging by comments on gun boards and the existence of imfdb.org, such a cover might elicit an eye roll or two...which then turns into a rant thread on a gun board somewhere ;).

Just a thought...

I'd offer a pic of a pre-war or 640b, but for 2 reasons: One, I'm presently away from my toys with only a Glock ;) and two, even if I were able to access them, I don't have anything remotely close to the photography skills exhibited by Dr.Rob .

There's got to be someone else here with a real pre-war P35, 640b or pre-'60 FN BHP...and decent photography skills who will step up as Dr. Rob has...

Blatant RTT ;):D

I had the perfect leftover lasagne but it was out of the foil. I have a magnum carry but not a DS. As for a vintage HP, don't have the coin for that.

I set this up with an inexpensive camera two lights and some colored glass.

I didn't set up a light box or anything, and I think Dr. Rob's the better photographer, but I do have a pre-60 FN.

If you like these, I can bust out the DSLR and retake better, as well as provide RAW format.

Mostly I just wanted to show off my new Houge hardwood grips. 32 bucks, can you believe it?

for the cover of a book, i think the second photo by Dr. Rob would be the best. The pics with the cans of kiwi just seem weird and would not get my interest as much as seeing a hi-power in an evidence bag would. just my .02...
