I'm ready to load some 7.62x54R for the M44s. Need a Recipe for the Speer 303 cal.-.311" Spitzer SP Bullets using IMR 4895 Powder.

The Lyman #48 Manual lists loads for 7.62 x 54R using #4895 with 125-gr and 180-gr Sierra (.311), 150 and 174-gr Hornady (.312) jacketed bullets. Test rifle was a SAKO Mosin-Nagant, 26" bbl, 1-9.5" (?) twist, .313" groove dia. They note wide variation in groove diameter on these surplus rifles, so it would be a good idea to slug yours to see what you have.

MInt bore from BIG5, Nagant 7.62x54R, 28.25" recrowned barrel, 8.25 pounds, 3" average
history at 100m, pillar bedded front and rear, glass bedded, welded bolt, AR15 riser scope mount, 2x7 Leupold, military green woven sling

49 gr. IMR4895, 180 gr. Sierra 2310, 3.002": ,
measured 2873 fps, 1.5" 5 shot group @50 yards 3301 foot pounds

Quickload predicts 55,858 psi, 2845 fps

That is the rifle and the load that I took elk hunting in 2005, and I have a dozen other rifles that went to the range to try to get that gig, but got passed over for the 91/30.
