My dad's birthday is coming up and I would like to get him a recoil pad for his Win 70 synthetic. Neither he nor I am good with grinding, so "grind to fit" is out of the question, and I know he hates slip on pads. I need to find a pre-fit pad for his 300 win mag. He is getting up there in age and I know he is starting to feel it. I really like my Limb Saver pad that I have on my Rem 700, but I cannot find one for his synthetic 70...in fact I cannot find any pre-fit pads for his 70. Who sells a recoil pad for a Synthetic Winchester 70, and of those, which is the best. Thanks!!!

I have reached the 70 year old mark and I use a Winchester Pro-Mag, which you can wear on either shoulder[ambidextrous]. I find it handier when I take several rifles to the range, don't have to worry with one or more slip on pads.
According to their packageing the following is felt recoil for a 7mm mag./175grn.bullet.

no pad=280 lbs
premium recoil pad=128 lbs.
Winchester pro-field[recommended for shotguns]=90lbs.
Pro-mag.=42lbs.

Works for me!

The best recoil pad ont he market, in my opinion, is the Shooter's Friend. Ordered mine from Cabelas. It is said to decrease felt recoil by 70%. Bold claim, and I thought it would be just like a cheap version of a limbsaver. However, I believe it does a better job. Looks ugly as hell, but I'm not complaining. I can shoot 3" slugs from my 6 pound double-barrel all day long and the thing protects me.

Go to www.limbsaver.com. You can print out the templates for all their recoil pads and then match them to your buttstock to see if you can find the best fit.
For Pachmayr you order a Lyman catalog and they have the dimensions listed for their pads or you can e-mail them and the will mail you a printout ALL
their pad dimensions.

Thanks for the replies! I did find that most companies sell pads for Win 70s, but most are for wood stocks. The synthetic stock is hollow with pre-set screw areas that cannot be changes so it is a must that it fit the stock exactly. Thanks!!!
