Going to be traveling in a few days overseas. Anybody have any good books they've read lately?

I like Stephen Hunter, Ambrose for non-fiction, etc.

Anything appreciated. Thx

I'm a James Lee Burke fan and I think that I've read most of his works.
Old but good are the works of Leon Uris.
How about Michner, Chesapeake and Centennial are tremendous reads.

Rick Atkinson's Liberation Trilogy describing the coming of age of the US Army in WW II Europe.

An Army at Dawn (2002)
The battle for North Africa

The Day of Battle (2007)
The invasions and campaigns in Sicily and Italy

And coming May 2013:
The Guns at Last Light
The battle for Western Europe

Incredibly detailed and well-written.

Good books....

Anything by David McCullogh. The Great Bridge, The Path Between The Seas(gruesome working conditions in Panama until the mosquitos were walloped), Truman, 1776

Deadly Spin: An Insurance Company Insider Speaks Out on How Corporate PR Is Killing Health Care and Deceiving Americans by Wendell Potter - think you know a lot about how health care works? Think again....this from a fellow who worked on the inside for a long time. It ain't pretty...

Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption
Laura Hillenbrand - POW story and the fellow survives and forgives his Japanese tormentor sixty years later

The Forgotten 500: The Untold Story of the Men Who Risked All for the Greatest Rescue Mission of World War II Gregory A. Freeman - I had never heard of this escape and it is an amazing story

The Faustball Tunnel: German POWs in America And Their Great Escape (Bluejacket Books) John Hammond Moore (Author) - The Nazis still held power in the American POW compounds until the administration decided to segregate them.

Grandfather's Tale: The Tale of a German Sniper
Timothy Erenberger (Author) - Great book, except the way the story was told, I thought the Germans had won WWII until the last few pages.

Wahoo: The Patrols of America's Most Famous World War II Submarine
Richard H. O'Kane - I like submarine books

Another great sub book - Blindman's Bluff - you won't believe how much we violated Russian territorial waters during the cold war. Pure and simple, an act of war. But the fellows did it.

Benjamin Franklin: An American Life by Walter Isaacson - I always liked Ben

If you need any more ideas, let me know!!

I will second mises.org

Conceived in Liberty by Rothbard is a great history of the USA.

Monster Hunter International for fiction

Lee Childs "Reacher" series.

The Travis McGee books by John D MacDonald

If you want one great big book, I recommend "Cryptonomicon' by Neal Stephenson. The longest craziest plot you'll ever read, but easy to follow and entertaining.
