That's a pretty good deal at $30 for a respectable safe. Here's some better pics:

DAC Gun Safe -- Optional Charger?

I just purchased a DAC Gun Safe from Walmart. I've looking for a 12 VDC transformer that will fit it. Has anyone found the right model charger?

DAC SportSafe

I just got one of these from Wal-Mart after reading this thread.

The exterior seems pretty solidly built, but the "guts" bother me. The two metal rails that hold the plastic "shelf" had some bent prongs (I bent them up to where they should be, but this just screams of poor workmanship).

The foam lining is lifting off the inside of the safe because the glue has softened/weakened. So every day I have to press it back down to stick it back on. If it gets annoying enough I'll probably just use some double-sided tape and be done with it. :cuss:

Also, the glue around the edges of the rubber keypad cover is softened, and gummy.

Furthermore, the aforementioned metal rails have some rust spots on them!!

So, while this was a pretty good price for a quick-access safe, I definitely got what I paid for. If I had to do it over again I think I'd go for one of the Simplex-based boxes. :banghead:

On the plus side, the rubber buttons are pretty easy to press; last time I used a GunVault I remember the buttons being quite stiff, to the point that I was concerned I'd very easily NOT press hard enough with my pinky finger to reliably get the sequence correct.

P.S. Any of you other DAC owners have those issues? I thought about trying to get an even exchange from Wal-Mart, but their web site says I'd have to pay return shipping AND the shipping cost on the new unit. What a rip!!

OK, thanks for the info. I called Wal-Mart.com CS and the guy said I can return this one to the local store and they will refund the cost including shipping. Tonight I am going to place a new order online to replace it.

If the second one is bad too, it's history... and I will just get something else.

I was looking at the Armloc safe, and it says it "Has both a resetable combination lock and an Ace. Key Lock ". Does that mean you need to BOTH punch in the code AND use a key, or just one or the other?

Gunvault

I have had the Mini-Gunvault at my bedside since 2000 with the same Pro-cell batteries with no problems whatsoever. The Pro-cell battery life baffles me though.

I have a gunvault and the DAC - both eat batteries like nuts (every 3 months) Although I do need to "invest" in some good batteries. The Gunvault will not pop open will low or out of batteries. Worse than that it will shut down and not let you in. I heard a noise the other night, got out of bed and pushed my code in and it just gave a weird beep. Low on batteries and it wouldn't let me in. I'm just glad it was a false alarm that night.

Raiseing the dead post

Well I am having problems with my gunvualt not opening. I removed the mechanism and the small motor that triggers the realease mechanism just jumps for a second and then does nothing. Even with fresh brand new batteries. No problem sorta, after spending a good chunk of money on this thing I foolishly expected customer support. Funny thing I call any dept at gunvault and I get a live person. Tech support I get to leave a VM never a live person and never a call back like the recording claims:banghead:

well got a warm body after many tries. In a nut shell if you have a Gunvault product and on the key lock face the serial number starts with the letter "A" your screwed if you need parts. Advanced security used to be the owner of Gunvault and they went belly up. Canon et all purchsed the name and patents. They have no parts. Makes one wonder what they changed since the current Gunvault product looks the same. Since they have the patents they could make parts if they wanted but they don't. So in a nut shell my new nightstand safe WILL NOT be a gunvault product
