For brevity I'll skip the other details of why i'm thinking about this.

Looking at possibly buying a used Savage for my wife, rifle is stocked with What appears to be This HS Precision with what i am assuming is the standard 13.5" length-Of-Pull.
Using the standard quick and dirty method of checking LOP, it looks like this is about 1/2" too long.

what I am curious about is whether it is even possible for a moderately equipped person to trim an HS that much?
Or would it turn into a nightmare that would make the $350-400 (depending on source and sales offers) for a new unit of the same design with custom L.O.P. seem a bargain?

as always in such things, thank you for your time and any advice or insight you care to share. :)

Just bought a new HS stock also and the recoil pad is epoxied on instead of screwed on, just cut the stock with a miter saw - mines electric - and epoxy another pad on - I used Acraglass gel.

Ok, so it's a glue on pad, and not a Screw on? That makes it both simpler and more complex at the same time (but a complex that i can more readily handle). :)

I poked and jabbed and couldn't find a screw head, so I started cutting the softer pad away from the hard plastic backing and found washers where the screws belonged, no screws. The pad is epoxied so I cut it off and epoxied a different pad.

as it turns out, this was all for nothing..

the rifle in question wound up being sold a few days prior to our being able to return to the shop and put it on layaway. :(

so after talking it over overnight, we decided to have the shop Order Trish a NIB 12FCV for about $50 more than the Used, HS Stocked, rifle. :D

the LOP on the factory FCV is still slightly long, but i have alot fewer qualms about tossing a factory stock (even a Savage "AccuStock") and in short order replacing it with a good aftermarket unit with custom L.O.P. , than I do/did about the idea of doing the same with the likes of an HS Precision.
