I'll start off by saying that I am interested in this gun and the person I'm buying it from is a good friend of mine. Neither of us can figure out a price... It's a colt upper 7,790,314 serial number and a caspian arms lower 51030 serial number. Haven't field stripped it yet, but I plan to. also, aside from normal wear on the front of the barrel the only damage I can see so far is a cosmetic scratch above the magazine release (see pic) basically what I'm after is a fair price for both parties considered. We're planning to go out this weekend to shoot it, strip it, and clean it so that I know what I'm getting.

It's a mixmaster with GI sights. To turn it into a good shooter, you're going to have to replace the sights. I'd say $400, tops.

You can buy a new Springfield or Rock Island for under $600.

Not even a Mixmaster, it is a surplus USGI replacement slide, 7790314 is the blueprint number not a serial number; on a commercial Caspian frame. Value depends on what the other parts are - look like GI except the Commander grip safety and rubber grips - and the skill it was assembled with.

Shoot before you buy. Do not accept any excuses, if it does not work 100%, pass it by unless you want a gunsmithing project instead of a gun.

Price should consider what you can get a Filipino copy for.

for a friend $350 $400, max is $400-$500 on gun broker for a frankinstien 45acp

Not sure I understand this comment.

If you mean a good shooter as in a defensive weapon, then I agree you need a modern 3-dot set up for faster target acquisition, but between my 3-dot set ups and my 2 Colt's with GI sights, I'll take the GI sights because they leave less guessing for sight alignment.

It will definitely take me longer to line up the sights, but for paper punching or tin can plinking, I am personally more accurate with the GI sights.

man that scratch.... Did he try to put it back together without looking at the manual?

personally, I would go new with a RIA tactical. Trijicon night sights are going to run you $90 after shipping and that gun is a hodgepodge of parts with no warranty. Stay safe and go RIA or American Classic for the $400-500 region if you end up not liking that one. Though i can understand trying to help out a friend.

The scratch doesn't bother me so much. This is my first 1911 and I plan on it not being my last. As far as I'm concerned I'm learning to drive stick shift on this thing, getting the feel for what I like and don't feeling for what grain I'll like to shoot etc. It'll be my daily driver so to speak. I plan on trying out the GI sights first and if I feel like it's a match with me I'll leave it. If not, Trijicons.

Highest i would go would be 450.

there are too many good 1911's out there for $400-500 like the American Classic II and the Rock Island.

There is no "upper receiver" on a 1911/1911A1
The top is known as the "slide assembly".

The number on the slide assembly is a drawing number for that particular replacement part.

Who made the barrel and internal components?

Caspian has a well deserved reputation for quality 1911 frames.

$400-$450 would be about right for that particular pistol @ RETAIL.
