Read and found some data on the subsonic matter at Your site. Successfully followed your advice and got a round through my Ruger mini-14 at ~1000 fps that was not more audible than a modest hand-clap. The .223 is suppressed with BR T8. Started with 5 gr of Norma R1 behind a molycoated Sierra MatchKing 53 gr - and worked it down to 3.2 gr. Very silent and still good penetration! But its not a concept for hunt on roe deer...so now Im on the next project: a suppressed Ruger 77/44. There are som "?":s about it:
The faccory barrel is 18.5" and twist is 1:20; I know You dont recommend shooting 300 gr with that slow twist (and others say it works..or its just at the limit). Perhaps I should choose a new barrel with faster twist - but what effect will that have on the pressure? Plan is to use jacketed bullets like Hornady XTP 300 gr and molycoat them manually.
I want of course have the minimum of muzzle report and use a fast propellant according to your intentions. Ive seen data with Vv N 310 from others and yours with lighter bullets (which will not bring the demanded 800 J at 110 yards). Wonder if you can estimate a load with R1 for the 300 gr JHP. Its obvious that this powder isnt manufactured for big/heavy bullets - but on the other hand heavy loads in shotguns are propelled with very fast powders - am I wrong?
The can will again be a BR Tuote. The aperture in the .44 is double that in the .223 and Ive heard the need of baffles is proportional to the aperture so I plan for a T16 this time. Overdoing? How many baffles in the deLisle-copy 44 at the BR homepage do you think?
