In recent years I have taken a liking to firing my weapons up in the air at the stroke of midnight on Jan 1. This year i'd like to add a new twist. I want the first 3 muzzle blasts to be in this Order RED-WHITE-BLUE. Does anyone know what chemicals I can add to the loads to produce those colors?

First ..... you ain't gonna do this with a std centerfire!

Second .. maybe a cap & ball revo ..... whereby you can use a BP charge behind a wad of kitchen paper .... and add what is needed for color.

As far as the actual chems? I have way too poor a memory for this to help but ... go do some searching .... stuff like ''pyrotechnics'' etc. You should find plenty of inf out there.

Mind you - what you may need will not necessarily be either readily or easily available! Best stick to fireworks methinks.

Well, I'm not a chemistry expert, but I played one in a skit one time!

But seriously, you're in Miami and firing your guns in the air? Ever thought about how wrong that is? Unless you're firing blank rounds, those bullets have to come down somewhere.

I would be leery of adding any chemicals to reloads for several reasons - you have no idea how it will affect the powder ignition and burning; to achieve a desired color, you might add a chemical that isn't compatible with the steel in your barrel under heat and pressure.

I knew it would be long!

Before a coupla fish swam off with the bait!

Well, I guess we have been designated as fish, Chris, since we tried to help/keep out of jail someone who we have no clue as to their intentions or experience.

Oh well. C'est la vie.

My dad the retired chemist says.

Red calcium or strontium or lithium salts

White would be oil of some type

Blue would be best some sort of copper salts.

Beyond that you are on your own.....

I suggest y'all do a Google Groups search of one of those newsgroups devoted to

-drum roll------.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.

PYROTECHNICS!! Been a few years since I lurked there (usually a 10-minute scan of topics, every few months), but those guys are NUTS and they have probably already discussed it ad naseum.

Colors

Years ago when I was a junior chemist working on solid rocket propellant for the first space shots, I wrote a booklet on making your own fireworks around here somewhere and the stuff is rather hazardous as my supplier in Glendale Galifornia had a spark happen on a workbench and the chemical supply house burnt to the ground in a very spectacular fashion.

:cuss: :banghead: :fire:

If those loads include bullets, dumb, dumb, dumb, stupid, stupid, stupid.... look down your barrel and see what the colors are when you fire....GO AWAY....

If no bullets, then dumb for not saying so.... :neener:

I think this fishing expedition has gone on long enough. Zero has caught his limit and besides trolling in these waters is forbidden by the THR Fish and Game Commission.

If there is any forum where joking around is never a good idea, it is here in the Handloading and Reloading forum.
