Sorry if this has been asked before. I am just coming into the pistol reloading and although I have many different pistols my marriage wont allow me to load for everything and honestly I dont feel comfortable taking too much on at the start anyway. I am starting off reloading for my 9mm first. I am just plinking at the range but dont want to sound like its not a big deal. My real question is about what grain? I have 115gr berrys and RMR now but am wondering if I made a mistake because I purchased only 1 grain... Is my 115gr a good starting point?

Mike

It is a good starting point. You'll be fine. I shot them for years because they were the cheapest, but then tried 124/5 Gr bullets and now use those.

Load them, shoot them, enjoy them.

The 115 gr bullet is excellent in 9MM. Down the road, you can try other weights and determine what you like best.

The 115-grain ball bullets are generally easy to work with and are probably the only .355" bullets that will feed and shoot in any 9mm Luger handgun you can name. An excellent starting bullet.

I like 124/125gr bullets best in the 9mm but like said above, nothing wrong with 115gr bullets especially since they cost less than the heavier bullets.

Don't forget the range report...

Excellent place to start. Are the Berry's bullets the newer hollow base, or the regular flat base 9mms? What powder do you have available? Hodgdon Powder has a good reloading database online if you don't have a reloading manual yet.

Actually you are better off using only one bullet weight for starters. That way you can concentrate on improving the load before experimenting with another weight.

I have the berry flat bottom 9mm in 115 gr. I have purchased the Lyman 49th edition,Speer manual and Hornady 8th edition. I also got from the Library the ABC'S of reloading. At this time I was only able to get Titegroup powder because thats all my LGS had at the time and the guy said it would work fine. I will be loading with CCI 500 Primers. I see the Lyman says 4.0 for a load with an OAL OF 1.090. Through searching the board I see the most liked is 4.2 gr. of titegroup. I assume thats the sweet spot or does it vary from gun to gun? I will be loading small batches of 10 this weekend and was going to do some 4.0 and some 4.2. Eventhough the manaual says 4.5 is max I dont feel comfortable doing that just yet.

I used 115's for a long time. They work well and remember every time you change a bullet profile or weight you will need to work back up from scratch. Use what you have and then you may want to try some 124's. I found that all of my 9mm's are a little more accurate with the 124's and you my find different with your pistols the 115's may be better.

The Berry 115gr is a great place to start. All the Berry bullets load easily and perform well. With the 115gr try an OAL of something short, like 1.130".
