I am writing a piece for a school magazine on the rush of gun sales since the election. I am trying to find some hard facts as far as numbers sold. I know there was a way to check the number of NCIS checks done in a certain month so I could compare last year to this year does anybody have that link? I am interested in all sorts of hard numbers not just numbers on EBR's but those are always welcome.

Also if anybody has good comparisons of prices changes over that time feel free to add that in as well.

Thanks much.

Our local economy has reaped the blessings of the increase in business by Bushmaster, Walther and Saco.

Ayuh.

Looks like they are up about 24-27%, not including private sales which don't go through the NICS background check system. Sources:

I would say that it is actually higher than that. Look at any AR-15 manufacturer and everything is out of stock and/or back-ordered for 3-6 months.

You will also find that ammunition, particularly the ammunition for AR-15s is also hard to find.

It's selective.

Black powder cap and ball revolvers aren't exactly flying off the shelves.

Neither are lever action hunting rifles.

As much of a gun nut and survivalist as I like to believe I am, it troubles me just a tad that so many are getting so tactical. I mean, the intruder is just as dead if you shoot him with a nickel plated 29. Probably more so.

South Carolina had a tax free gun sales during black Friday weekend....

My buddy at the Bass Pro in Myrtle Beach said that on a average weekend they sell 50 to 60 guns......... black Friday weekend they sold over 300

Certainly. However it'll be a while before they get around to banning those. The scary looking rifles and mag fed handguns will be first. At least chances are the prices on those aren't commanding such a premium if those guns float your boat.
Good luck on finding hard numbers. You might just say it's happening so fast the numbers aren't available. If they are allowing photocopied 4473s then getting an accurate blow-by-blow tally isn't going to be a high priority. Also keep in mind not every state (including oregon) uses NCIS. We use the OSP.

I just saw one in an NRA publication, but given that it was an NICS stat, I'd suggest getting it straight from the source since that is your responsibility as a journalist. :) If only they ALL played by the rules.
