My dad is going to give me one of his revolvers that he has as my first pistol cause I wanted one instead of my shotgun and rifles for home protection and for shooting occasionally with my friends. He says i can only pick from 2 of his pistols that he doesnt use

1st Bill Davis Custom Model Smith and Wesson .38 special
HE told me it will only shoot that caliber

2nd Dan Wesson 445 Supermag Said it had like 9 or 10 inch barrel ?
HE told me that will probabbly kick more than my rifle and I will
prob have to special order ammo

Again I know nothing about pistols so any reviews on these would be great.

Take your Dad to the range and try them both. Figure out which works best for you and have a fun family day to boot!

The .38 (depending on the customization) would be my choice if I were limited to just those two.

My 2¢ and worth every penny you didn't pay!

I wish i could he is coming from california to visit for grandsons birthday so i cant do that.

Only thing he told me about the .38 was that is shoots only the .38 special and has a aristrocrat sighting. Says gun is heavy and shoots like a .22. He used this gun when he was into shooting competitions

He told me the dan wesson bullet is like a 330 grain which i think it ridiculous but again i dont know nothing about pistols.

I would think the S&W would serve you better for your stated purpose.

I don't think you would be well served starting life with centerfire handguns with a 445 Supermag. Costs a weeks groceries to shoot, and kicks like the proverbial mule.
The 38 should be a real fun, good shooting gun.

good call i didnt even think about bullet prices really just excited that i am getting my first pistol
