I inherited to shotguns recently. The first is a side by side 16gauge, and the only words on it are "Nitro Beschuss" on the barrel. No other words or numbers anywhere. Anybody have a clue? It has some engravings (patterns not words).

The second says "Browning Arms Co Ogden Utag Full 16 special steel" on the barrel. On the receiver it says "Fabrique Nationale D'armes De Guerre Herstal Belgique" On the underside it has a serial number 852xx with a subscript H underneath the 2 and FN that is circled above the SN. On the right side, next to the bolt it has some small icons, one of which looks like a lion. Any value idea and what this is? I would say this gun is 90%+. thanks!

The first one sounds like a european made shotgun.

The second one, if it's an autoloader, would be a belgian made Browning A5. Often referred to as the "Sweet Sixteen".

I suggest posting pictures, and your questions, over on shotgunworld.com. Lots of dedicated and knowledgeable shotgunners over there.

Can't help you on the SxS. Euro doubles are a murky and complicated mess.

Around here, a 90% Sweet Sixteen will go maybe $400-600, depending on who sees it.

I suggest you keep it. Besides being a heirloom, it's a darn good shotgun.

HTH....

Thanks guys for the help. They are both beautiful guns. The double has some beautiful engravings, I will try to get pictures when I get them home tomorrow. Is that gun something someone should look at in person? Not looking to sell. Need insurance values, want some history. I am a 99% handgunner, so this is a murky business in general for me.
