Just writing an op-ed piece (my last one didn't get published - big surprise) on concealed weapon permits.

I found Florida's statistics on concealed weapon permits in terms of the number issued, the number revoked, etc.

I'm having a heck of a time finding this info for other states though.

So far I tried looking for Virginia, Oregon, and Pennsylvania. I even called Oregon's sheriff department at 5 AM my time (2 AM their time I think) to ask for help - but at such a bad hour I wasn't surprised nobody knew the answer.

So if you know where to find state-level statistics for your state, please let me know. I'm looking for up-to-date stats.

Ever since handing in my final paper on the subject, I just keep wanting to write more and more about it. I'll probably eventually just start a blog like everybody else.

Also, I remember reading quotes by sheriffs and others basically saying that their initial predictions about concealed permits and what would happen were wrong. As in, the predictions that people would start shooting each other after accidents, etc..... didn't come true except for a few isolated incidents. I've been googling and can't find those quotes anymore.

Any help would be awesome. Obviously I don't have any deadline....

You ain't likely to find that. You really think they're going to admit they were wrong?

While it is certainly out of date and might not exactly be what you're looking for, here is a link to state level info on our handgun's in New York State:

http://www.troopers.state.ny.us/Firearms/index.cfm

As all handguns in NYS are required to be registered with the State Police it gives you a listing of how many were lawfully registered as of that year. Also lists how many permits have been revoked.

Some of them will admit they were wrong. A couple of relevant quotes here:
Both John B. Holmes, Harris County district attorney, and Glenn White, president of the Dallas Police Association, initially opposed concealed carry in Texas but have subsequently embraced it. Holmes said, "I . . . [felt] that such legislation . . . present[ed] a clear and present danger to law-abiding citizens by placing more handguns on our streets. Boy was I wrong. Our experience in Harris County, and indeed statewide, has proven my initial fears absolutely groundless." And White said, "All the horror stories I thought would come to pass didn't happen. . . . I think it's worked out well, and that says good things about the citizens who have permits. I'm a convert."
I am not sure of the original source of those quotes, but I have seen them elsewhere.

good info guys. Thanks.

I didn't think to check Texas and Kansas. Thanks for those links. Looks like the same trend as Florida. Less than 1% of permits revoked.

the_pistolero - thanks for the link and the quote. :)
