I need to order a case or so of good surplus .308 (either Port, Spanish, Australian or Hirt), and I need to know a good place to purchase it online.

I live in Oregon, so the shipping cost from some of the places online is outragous. Anyone know of a good place close to Oregon where I can order ammo online?

Local place wants $210 for a case of 800rnds of ADI, which goes for $130 online. But the shipping is killing me.

Thanks.

You might try www.ammoman.com

The prices are good, not necessarily "the best," but shipping is already figued in to the prices (he has "free shipping"), so what you see is what you pay.

They're even in Oregon and have Australian 308 @ $129.95/800 +shipping and Port @$169.95/1000+shipping.

I can get 800rds of Aussie 308 delivered to me here in Seattle for $147.79 from them vs $179 from Ammoman, bless him because he's great but he has to pay to ship it from NJ and that costs $$.

Between Ammoman and Outdoormarksman (selling for Miwall), I have always been able to find the loads I want and the prices I like. On most things, Ammoman is a little higher because the shipping from Oregon is not bad, but Ammoman carries some great deals and is always worth a look.

Does anyone have experience with S&B ammo? There is some relatively inexpensive ammo of theirs out there, and I'm looking at getting some if it it's of decent quality.

Miwall has been a staple of the Western gun shows for a long time. I've been shooting their stuff for about 12 years now and just ordered a bunch more .38, .357, and .45Colt (or Long Colt just to irk a few out there.... ;) ). I think their loads are great quality low cost plinkers. Velocity, in my experience has been light, but I have always found them very consistant and of good quality.

I love S&B ammo. Their 9mm hasn't proven as accurate in my HP as I would like, but I like their .45 and my CZ likes the 9mm (must be a Czech thing :) ).

I shoot my S&B FMJ over Winchester white box any day of the week.

Outdoor Marksman is in Salem and they have a storefront, so if you ever get in that area you can drop in.

I use a lot of Miwall new and reload ammo in both .38SPL and .357 Magnum. Both are very accurate, clean and reasonably priced. They use either Winchester or Remington cases for their ammo.

I also shoot S&B in 9mm, .38Spl, .357 mag in 158gr (fairly hot ammo at almost 700 lb-ft of energy and 1400 fps!) and .45ACP. It is accurate and no dirtier than the Winchester White Box stuff. The prices from Outdoor Marksman is about the same, if not a little cheaper, than WWB ammo. I use the cases for reloading and they work well. You just have to slightly ream the primer pockets on occasion.

You guys are excellent, as always.

I knew there was a shop in Salem, I just didn't know what their name was.

Perfect. Shipping should be pretty cheap from there.

Thanks again.
