The sun rose in a bright blue sky this AM in beautiful Chesterfield County. I awaited an old friend whom I'd not seen in 2 years for a trip to the mountains to repair the flue on his cabin.
He arrived right on time and we got to the business of what arms we would take on our journey. We setled on the 1911 .45, the SKS, the Makarov, his .40 Glock and a 19 inch bl. breaktop H&R 12 gauge
that I wanted to shoot some slugs out of.
After a 2 hour drive and some exquisite pork BBQ, we arrived at the cabin and set to work to make repairs. Upon completion came the shooting.
The Makarov functioned flawlessly, 50 rounds thru it...no hiccups. Groups of minute of saucer at 40 feet. This was my first time firing it and I was quite pleased.
The glock and 1911 functioned as one would expect, giving respectable groups at 100 feet with no glitches. All rounds, unless otherwise indicated, were fired at large silhouette targets. The SKS shot the tightest groups, one group of 10 all in the 10 ring.
The shotty was a bruiser...single, double ought buck and rifled slugs thru this short stick is enough to make one swear off shotgunning in the future.
That being said, it was FUN to blow up
cans of paint, bricks and cheap garden pottery with this beast. One round left my face feeling as if I had been swatted by George Foreman.
After completing our work and firing enough ammo to supply a small 3rd world
country, we returned home; secure in the knowledge that practice makes perfect and old friends are the best.
