...I had the honor of having lunch with one of the most impressive men I've ever met...late January of '90. Being in B'casting had it's benefits, as notables from all walks of life would come by to be on one of the talk shows.

When this gentleman (in the true sense of the word) got off the air I went up and told him how much I admired him and his cause. As it turned out, we went to lunch at a nearby Jim's Restaurant and talked for over an hour. I happened to have this copy of Time in my 'Vette, and he happily autographed the cover for a "turn at the wheel!"

What a coincidence

I choose my experience with Joe Foss to be one of the best memories of meeting a hero too. I happened to meet him at the 2000 NRA Convention in Charlotte, NC. He graciously took the time to shake hands, and say hello. It was my opportunity to thank him for all that he has given for our country and for the RKBA as President of the NRA. I have seen the bio of him and it is touching to see him describe his fear at Guadalcanal, yet feeling that he had to give all he could because of the young Marines there. He said that they didn't have anyone else, so he had to carry on as best he could. He had a tear in his eye when speaking of the young kids on the ground that had been deserted by everyone else including the Navy. Only a few courageous men in the Cactus Air Force stood between the Marines and the immense japenese navy and amphibious troops. I still choke up thinking about him.
