Well, I'm back at the drawing board again on my 1911 kick. I just bumped my budget up to $2000 and I'm still having a hard time deciding. I'm looking for a full size target pistol in 10mm, preferably not stainless.

I contacted Fusion about doing a custom build to my exact specs on a 10mm and just got the quote back tonight. $2050. I really like the ability to take the things I like from multiple different guns and combine them in one package. I just don't know if I want to take a gamble on Fusion. But a 10mm target pistol is difficult to find. Especially when you start adding the little things that I want. Need some help.

Just don't see them talked about nearly as much as Baer, Brown, Wilson, etc.

For me, that's a lot of money to put down toward something.

Since $2k is quite a chunk of change, why spend that much on your first 1911? You may find the platform is not the said all be all you may think it is. Most $800-$1000 ones can be resold for a reasonable return. Why not try it out and then upgrade later if you want to

What are you looking for?

Didn't mean to imply this was my first 1911. It's most definitely not.

What are you looking for?

10mm
5" barrel
Adjustable target rear sight
Fiber optic front sight
Flat top slide w/ serrations
Black or blued slide and frame w/ stainless controls
Checkered front strap
Flush-cut and target crowned barrel

They seem to be good guns AND you can get exactly what you want. That will mean a lot to you. Since it is in your price range, sounds like a 'go-fer' to me.

Well I was going to comment that $2,000 was too much to spend on a 1911 until I added how much I have spent customizing one of my 1911's. My experience is custom guns is a journey not a final destination. You will always find the need for another one.

While I don't own a Fushion M1911, I have purchased a number of components from them and have found them to be very high quality in terms of materials used and design tolerances.

I would have no reservations about ordering a custom made pistol from them.

Have you thought about buying a Delta Elite and have the work you want done to it??

I have. I'd rather not go with an all stainless gun though. And by the time you buy a DE, around $900-$1000, and have all the work done by a good gunsmith I'd be coming close to being over budget.

^ the older ones came in blue and you can still pick them up for around the same price.

There's always ceracote as well, if you don't like the bright stainless slide of the Delta Elite.

I assume you want the dark slide and serrations to cut down glare. You could also have a Delta Elite stainless slide given the heavy bead-blasted matte finish that Colt is putting on some of their newer stainless pistols (like the XSE and Rail Gun). It makes a for a nice dark grey matte finish that serves the same purpose as slide top serrations.

Just throwing out options. But it sounds like you are pretty sure of what you want, so I see no problem with going with Fusion. I don't own one, but they seem to hafe a pretty good rep. They have some employees that seem to be pretty active over at 1911forum.com
