I just got a Taurus PT1911 today andwill report on the shooting once I get the chance to take it out. Right now I am looking for a holster and as always; would like to get it from galco. Only problem is I am not able to find a holster for the PT1911. Does anyone know if another 1911 specific holster would work for mine?
Thanks
Paul

PJ FF,

I'd be flabbergasted to learn that ANY holster for a 5" 1911 would not fit your pistol. Or to put it another way, yes, any 1911 specific holster should fit your PT 1911.

Assuming we're talking full-size 1911 I'll throw the Galco Fletch suggestion out there. Works pretty well for me when I carry OWB.

As previously stated, pretty much anything made for a 1911 will work for any 1911.

I have a Galco Fletch for a 4 1/4" Commander. If I were to buy another Galco holster for a 1911, it would be either a Concealable or a Combat Master, because I don't like the retention strap on the Fletch.

I believe the Combat Master keeps the gun a little closer to your body than the Concealable, for whatever that's worth.

I have worn mine as long as 20 hours with out any discomfort- Michael T

PJ FF: It may take you a while to find one that is as comfortable as Michael's, which is why you'll probably end up trying several brands.

Don't underestimate how heavy a 1911 gets carrying it throughout the day. Even if you don't carry it, it's still heavy :D.

The point is, as many of us have learned, you'll soon have shelves / boxes of holsters you've accumulated while searching for the right one. This is a GOOD problem to have, by the way.

Function and comfort often do not go hand in hand.

Take care,
DFW1911

Galco makes a good holster but they are over priced compared to Sparks or Alessi. There is a wait for either of these but it's well worth it. Seeing there are so many out there I have bought a couple used Galco holsters off e-bay, auctionarms or gunbroker for around $40 or so. The Concealable is a great design.

If you want a workhorse holster that's short on pretty, but long on function I recommend a Blackhawk CQB kydex holster with the Serpa retention system. You can configure it as either a belt loop or paddle holster. It is perfect for cocked an locked 1911 carry and you can get them for under $40.00.

I went to sportmans today and looked at a Miami Classic for the 1911 and I loved it. I did not buy it but im sure thats what I will end up with.

Be sure whatever you get will work with the ambi safety. Had a Springer GI, and a really nice holster made for it. Got rid of the gun, but kept the holster. Now my PT1911 will not work with this holster because of the ambi safety.

Congrats on your PT1911, bought one about 6 months ago. It's a great shooter and totally reliable. The only change I made to the "platform" was putting the Taurus mags back in the box and storing them on the shelf. All my 1911's use Wilson 47 or 47D's. With the Wilson mags in the Taurus I have never had a stoppage of any kind, from day one. Let's have a range report!! Hope yours works as well as mine did.
