New 1911 Owner

Hello,
I am a long time handgun shooter but I recently aquired a Norinco 1911, it is my first 1911 and the first 1911 I ad shot, I have been shooting my XD's and revolvers,

The problem is last outing I had bowling pins at 25 yards XD hits to POA each and every time its a tack driver, 1911 shoots about 6 feet high, I have to aim on the ground around 6 feet in front of the bowling pin to hit one of them, the windage is right on just the elevation, I see no adjustment on this gun, what do I need to do to fix this, If I can not fix this easily I will sell it and stick to my known good shooter

First, don't get rid of your Nork. They are great guns.
Second, you need to get the sights either checked by a smith or replaced. What kind of sights are they? Fixed (factory) or adjustable(aftermarket)?
You can get sights just like the ones on your XD on a 1911 slide for a small investment, and it will pay off big in the end.

No sight in the world is going to correct that much error Bet your pushing, as you pull the trigger. Let someone load your gun, and hand it to you(safety on), not knowing if a round is chambered, and watch what your doing. Betting you just need to get used to the trigger.

No thats not the problem, Myself and three others shot it, I shot a buddys Kimber and it was dead on, They to had to aim 6 feet in front of it

I've seen some Norinco's that have been re-worked quite a bit, especially the sights...Don't get rid of it quite yet.....

Joni; most box stock norinco's have acceptable accuracy. Not maybe for bulls eye match but for personal defense use they are okey 100%. Not meant to hijack the thread but most new NORCs I see to have a problem is with the 1/32 inch gap on the ramp and barrel throat gap. Most new models would seem to have a barrel overhang. Older models are A-OK. But otherwise the 1/32 issue they work fine.

You would have to add over a half inch of frt sight, to correct at 25yrds, with a 7" sight radius. And that would only get you 64". Unless you have a really tall rear sight, and a nub for a frt, you got bigger problems than sights.

To raise the point of aim you would want to lower the top of the front sight. But if it's three dot that wouldn't work. See a gunsmith.

Have a gunsmith check the barrel link and bushing. That's where the problem lies. It's an easy fix, keep the Norinco!!!

i suggest that you get the targets a little closer to you, say 7yds, out some orange dots out there, small ones, like they say and it is true aim small miss small, and just work with it. the trigger on the 1911, is much different than the xd's and revolvers, and then work your way back, to farther ranges. if it is off that bad at 25yds you should see a pretty significant poa/poi difference at the closer ranges to. and then if that still dosen't fix it i would have the sights replaced, i still don't see how you could be that far off.
