I just had to throw out there that I have been carrying my XD-45 as my primary for well quite a few months now, close to a year I guess in my Milt Sparks VM2 my other 1911 colt had some mods done to it and became a range gun for a while until I brought it all back to stock to carry again.

Anyhooo, I had just bought a Springfield TRP 1911 and just took it out on it's first carry trip last night. I took it bowling :D it had fun and so did I (although I totally sucked).

I had forgotten how much lighter and smaller a 1911 feels compared to my XD, although I love it, it's a brick compared to my TRP or my Colt. I also carry my 1911's in my IWB Milt Sparks VMII.

One big difference that I had not really noticed until now was the size of the spare mags. Those XD mags are huge and heavy compared to the slim light design of the 1911's. I carried 3 mags last night, 1 OWB, 2 IWB in a sparks dual carrier. Felt like it wasn't even there compared to the XD's.

I just really had forgotten just how much better they feel! To all those that ask why a 1911, you just gotta try one!

I to brought my Commander bowling recently. It had a grand time and I had a good time too.
I wondered if it would show and someone might say something but my fears were unfounded.
I love my Commander, it just feels so good.

The 1911 may be a large heavy gun, but it conceals/carries better than alot of polymer double stacks. My commander in sparks leather, is actually more comforable to carry than my tupperware.

The legeand spoke when he moved that Colt, .45. This was in reference to the Peacemaker but just the same. The Colt 1911 will work, clean or dirty, upside down or even under water. It fires sideways like in the B movies and it is accurate as a personal defense weapon. What more could you ask for? If it is modified it becomes less reliable. If it is ill cared for, it still works. Need anyone say more?

I carried a 1911 for a long time till I started to carry a Glock 19. I am really thinking about going back to the 1911. I have a nice SA that would make a good CCW. Looks like I need to update my holster selection.

My 1911 is by far my favorite pistol, it is a bit large to carry in a tee and jeans, but if I am wearing a jacket or a sports coat I carry my 1911. The one thing I love about it is I can look at a target close my eyes and pull the gun and fire and every round at 10 yards goes in a vital spot. They point shot better then any gun I have ever fired. My next buy is going to be an officer model so I can still carry it in a tee and jeans.

I'm a recent convert to the 1911. I carried a Glock for years as a LEO, and since have carried a Sig and others. I never understood the enthusiasm of the 1911 fans.

That was until I shot one recently.... now I understand. What a great shooting pistol. Nothing comes close to that great trigger pull except maybe my old S&W 686 revolver in SA mode.

I now have 2 1911's, including a New Agent that has become my carry gun, and all my other pistols have been retired to my gun safe.

All I can saw to anyone who, like me, don't know what all the hoopla is about - go rent one for an hour, and you'll understand.

I've long been a 1911 fan, but when I first shot my Dan Wesson CBOB it was a unique experience. That gun just feels so good in my hand while shooting! I don't know what it is about it.

I have heard that the grip of the Colt 1911 described as feeling similar to; "the warm firm handshake of an old friend".:)

on sunday i shot up 100 rds. today i bought two hundred rounds. that 1911A1 is certainly eating up my christmas bonus, but i can't stop!!!!!!!
nothing more relaxing or peaceful then shooting a 1911A1 on a sunny sunday in the backyard.

I couldn't agree more. Like so many other enthusiasts here on THR, I own or have owned other autos (Beretta, H&K, Sig,) and I like them tremendously.

But, there simply is no handgun that I prefer over a 1911. And of my (meager) three, my bare-bones Colt feels best in the hand.
