Well. I came home from the shop today with a New (to me anyway) Kimber Compact Stainless. The gun had been sitting there for a while and looks to be in immaculate condition except for needing to be cleaned due to dust buildup.
I do have a couple of questions though.
THis is my first 1911 with a bull barrel. Is there anything that i need to watch out for with this or pay special attention to?

Also. This may sound dumb but it does not say compact stainless II. It just says compact stainless. Does this mean that it is a Series I.....?

The trigger pull on it is excellent and I hope to get some pictures of it up soon.
I hope to find me a good holster for it as well.......thinking about either a brommeland leather max con or maybe a milt sparks vm2.

1 or 2

Jack the slide back and lock it to the rear. Look underneath. If there's a
little spring-loaded button near the back, it's a Series 2...If the button
ain't there, it's not. If not, be happy. You've got one of the good ones.
(Flame suit on and in working order)

Cheers!

I have a twin to yours. I love the gun-it is one of my favorite carry pieces. Mine is a 'series I' although, like yours, it does not have that marked on it.

I do not treat the cone barrel any differently. It just adds forward weight to help dampen recoil. Some say that the lack of a barrel bushing, you are in more trouble if the barrel wears to a sloppy fit in the frame at the front. I would imagine that would take many thousands of rounds.

Mine is quite accurate and absolutely 100% reliable. Hope you have as good luck with yours as I have had. Enjoy! You found a GOOD one!

Pics of my baby

Here is a pic i just took of my new baby. This is her as I got her. As you can see she needs a good cleaning and definitely some new grips. Also, does anyone know what kind of trigger that is? I didnt think it was a Kimber trigger.
Let me know what you think of her.

Nice find. Great little gun.

Definitely a Pre-Series II gun.

Yeah, I don't like wrap around grips on my 1911's.

That would be the junk plastic trigger that Kimber puts on some of their guns. It would probably be fine, but you may want to consider upgrading it to something a little heavier duty.

I'd like to find me one of those.

Steve

The Series II guns have the firing pin safety which was started in 2001.

Harry, your gun is a pre-Series 2 with the McCormick trigger that Kimber used to use.
