I picked up a Colt Wiley Clapp Government Model 2 weeks ago. It is my first 1911, I got what I considered to be a fair price, and I LOVE it. Only problems are...

1. Its an ammo hog. I ordered 500 rounds of .45 the same day I put in for my NJ Pistol Permit before the panic, in December. I'm down to just under 100 in 2 weeks. This thing eats!

2. I've been bitten:D. Now I want a Commander length (Vbob, anyone?), a Les Baer/Ed Brown/Wilson, an original GI model, a 10mm, etc.... It almost makes me ok that I have to have permits, and wait 30 days in between handgun purchases in Jersey, or I'd be broke!

Only mods are a set of birdseye maple grips from Sarge at The Finer Grain. From my interactions, he does great work, and is even better to deal with. Liked the first set so much, I've ordered a set of slims to match!

No, you feed too fast. Perks of having expendable income is the amount of rounds you can feed the gun.

I've still found VZs to be the end all grips for 1911s and CZs.

Nice gun! I just "happened into" a Colt .45 myself. That third pic had me going for a moment...it looks stainless. Ha!

I have to say that thing is a beauty :). IMHO though I like the original grips a little better. Not that I don't like maple, but the checkering on the originals is particularly attractive.

Congrats!

mrmustard - I was trying to make a joke. I just liked shooting the thing so much, and I wanted to get a feel for it, that I went out and spent most of my day at the range today, which burned up a lot of ammo. I have no problem buying more, but .45 is hard to find these days, at least around me. I'm planning on starting to reload so I can get more whenever I want it. I do want to try a set of VZs. I like the look of the Recons. Maybe I'll order a pair tomorrow....
