Id like to get into a nicer 308 and cant decide between the sako 85 classic or the new winchester model 70 featherweight, thoughts?

thanks

The Sako is a darn good rifle. I wouldn't be surprised if it were a tiny bit more accurate, but I prefer the Winchester. The new Winchesters are proving to be pretty accurate, have true CRF, are USA made and are about 2/3 the cost of a Sako. All features important to me.

if your going to walk hunt with it,find the lightest.i like synthetic stock, stainless.

I to prefer a SS/synthetic stocked rifle, no need for a brake on a 308. But lots of guys want walnut/blue. The FWT is about as close to perfection as it gets in walnut/blue.

Here are a couple of my favorites. A 30-06 SS FWT and a 308 EW. Both in lightweight McMillan Edge stocks.

im getting a new bolt action too, didnt have any idea which brand i would go with, but when i learned of the customizability of the savages as well as a vast aftermarket, allowing you to change barrels, bolt faces, bolt handles without special tools, essentially 5 minutes or less to swap a barrel requiring just a wrench for a castle nut.. i was sold on it

as for the M70/sako, i cant say

Handsdown, Winchester. I have 4 current manufacture M70s, and all four are very accurate:

Ultimate Shadow .243 Win
Stealth .22-250 Rem
Stealth .308 Win
Super Grade .270 Win

In fair disclosure, my first Super Grade in .30-06 Sprg was defective, but Winchester backed me well. Yes, I have owned a Sako, I think it was a Finnbear. It was chambered in .270 Win, and very very accurate. However, the laminated stock cracked. One day I was testing some handloads. It blew a primer, and that "blow-torched" the bolt face. Steel that soft is not for me. So, I stuck now with Weatherby rifles, and current manufacture Winchesters.

JMHO,

Geno
