A couple of months ago, I was cruising the gunshops in town and came across 2 guns I'd been thinking would be perfect for some of my hiking trips - 3", fixed sight .357 revolvers. One was a GP100, and the other was a Model 13 S&W.

The 13-3 S&W was nearly pristine externally, and looked to have been fired very little. I put money on it, and finally paid it off this week when I got my tax return. $489.00 plus tax, if you're interested/trying to price them out. A bit more than I wanted to spend, and about $80 more than the Ruger.

Had it out 2 times after work, and I'm very pleased with it. Not so enamored of the round-butt Magna grips for shooting magnum cartridges. They look very nice on it, and work alright for .38 Specials, but sure don't do much for shooting stability when I put magnums in it.

Looking at getting a rubber Hogue grip for it, though that won't be nearly so lovely. I'm currently debating the monogrip vs the bantam. I think I will get a bantam.

This is a very practical, righteous piece of hardware.

Congratulations on a great purchase. A 3" round butt Model 13 is on my short list for aquisition.

Thank you all! I am really excited about this thing. I ordered a Bantam grip for it today, and watched the Hogue youtube video of how to put one on. I really want to start using it for my bedside, and carrying it and shooting it more, but I'm going to be patient and wait until the grip gets here.

Good things come to those who wait! :D

I think you made a good choice, enjoy your revolver.

As for the service grips being a little hard on the hands when firing magnum ammo, you might want to fin a set of Tyler T-Grips to add to the grips. You get to keep the good looks of the service grips and the T-Grips take away most of the discomfort of shooting magnum ammo. IMO it's a win-win.

I'd have put them BOTH on lay-away. Then paid off one a bit earlier and had 'em within months.

My favorite Revolver is a 3" 13-4 with Magnas and a Tyler T grip.
I have a 4" pencil barrel 65 with a pencil barrel on it that has Hogue Bantams.
the Bantams make for a nice grippy handle and work to tame recoil.

S&W never ever put a pencil barrel on anything chambered for 357 did they? Is that a do it yourself mix&match? does the barrel say "smith&wesson 38spc ctg"?
