I haven't shot black powder since the 70's but I saw it on the local Gun Trader site for $250 and all the gear was included. Seemed to be a good deal so I picked it up today. It's still in the plastic bag, soaked in oil Traditions FR18512. I may actually have to fire this one. Did I do OK? tempImage0TlTVz.png

Sure did! A complete, looks like new, black powder revolver and all that other stuff for $250...I know you did good!

Congratulations. A steel frame 1851? A great deal by itself. All the other gear is decent to good quality and really makes the package a fantastic bargain. Heck, just having a couple of tins of percussion caps is a prize considering how difficult they can be to find recently.

Use the .454 round ball. As Hawg said above, the .457 balls will be harder to seat.

I always liked the '51's in .44 caliber. I still like them, even though they are "shunned" by some because "there's no such thing". My first BP revolver was such a pistol. Yes that was a very good deal. You had better shoot it. What a waste not to.

I stand by this statement ....the best gun pietta makes is the 1851 Navy chamberd in 44 caliber.

yep, nice score, and a good deal for a steel 1851 (even if it is a .44)
I think i paid 160 on sale for a brass one and around here steel run $250 on sale for just the gun, no extras (if you can find one).

Keep the .457 balls and get a Ruger Old Army to shoot them.

By the way, the term "navy" was to indicate 36 caliber. No such thing as a 44 navy.

Can't shoot these things anywhere close now. Next time I head out east I'll take the new one along. I dug this Navy Arms out of the safe. It's been around since the 80's and never fired. tempImagelMJIoh.png
