Well, went to the local Saxet Gun Show today.

After looking at approximately 25,786 different guns :p , this is what followed me home.

A Para Ordinance 10-40. It came with Hogues, the orginal factory grips, 2 mags and a box. The only modification that I can discern is a polished feed ramp.

This gun is an easy 99%. No holster wear, no scratches or dings. Field stripped it, everything looks sharp and well put together. Action is super tight, no rattles...looks and feels like a new gun. It feels like it is built like a tank.

$460.00 out the door. I think I did pretty well.

I have NO experience with Para, nor did I ever think this is what I would come home with today. I WAS looking for a new carry piece and this is a nice small package with .40 caliber punch.

If anyone has any experiences with these guns please chime in and let me know what to expect.

Time to change the signature :D !

I hope the Para .40S&W mags work better than their .45ACP mags. There is hope, as their 9mm mags (P18) have given me no trouble so far (probably over 500 rounds thru each mag), although of the four I have, none match very precisely in any dimension. I also have a fair number of the 17-round Mec-Gar P18 mags and these have been fine too.

Of the 14 Para 45ACP mags I have (P10, P13, P14, mostly pre-ban hicaps) all have had problems with binding followers and weak springs. I'd hoped post ban mags marked 2005 or LEO would have been better, but not in my case :(
The Mec-Gar 13-round P14 .45 mags aren't any better either.

IMHO double stack .45s using Para mags (virturallly all of them except for STI/STV) are not reliable enough for carry because the mags are too sensitive to dirt/fouling and mag spring life is rather short. Love 'em as range guns though.

I'd like to know if you can get 200-300 rounds without disassemling your P40 mag for cleaning and how many rounds you get on the mag spring before it needs replaceing (you'll know it when the jams don't stop after cleaning the mag). If you get "nose up jams" from the slide catching the extraction groove because the round didn't get up into position in time, you'll be having the same problems I see in the .45 mags.

Edit: The extra mag appears to be a Pro-Mag. I've had generally very poor results with these.
