Congratulations on your new arrival. You must be so proud. And, in brass, too, no less.

Imagine you, and the rest of the family will be very happy, together.

Nice photos. too.

I guess this is supposed to be the Griswold and Gunnison replica, though that claim is not made anywhere in Pietta's literature that came with the pistol. It is similar in appearance anyway. It likes #10 caps and seemed to work best with .454 balls and .20 grains of Pyro.
I started with 15 grains and .451 and they were all over the paper. The .454 seems to have better pressure and along with .20 grains it tightened up nicely. I did finish up the day shooting it with 30 grains, I liked that a lot.

The hammer cocks very smoothly and the trigger has no creep to speak of, just a nice crisp release. The initial take down and cleaning was easy enough. No stuck screws like I had on my '58 Remington. I did not feel any burrs on the innards of the thing, the only smoothing I did was on the cylinder side of the frame where the cylinder bolt pops out of the frame. A small file took care of that just fine in a few seconds. Other than that, fit and finish is very nice. The grips has nice grain to it but typical of all Italian reproductions I have seen they stain is too dark. But I am not gonna mess with it. POA is a little off. Not sure which but either I shoot high and right or the gun does. When I aimed low and a little left it hit center on the target. I am sure I can get used to it. I don't doubt I am pushing it a little when firing. ( I shoot left handed)

All In all I believe it was a good value from Cabelas. I am sure there will be many many years of fun shooting with it. Someday hopefully it will get passed on to one of the grandsons.

I am hoping the weather is not as bad tomorrow as they are threatening us with, I'd like to get some trigger time in then.
