Given the Colt bankruptcy today and that I found out these were discontinued a year or two ago, I picked one up from Buds. They have glacial shipping, so it will be a while before it gets here. It's a 3" 1911 in 45 ACP. I'm a Colt fan, and although I suspect the bankruptcy will matter very little to anybody outside of those to whom Colt owes money, I wanted one, and there's no time like the present.

I'll probably feed it some Winchester White Box to start, but I'm thinking about loads going forward.

My current carry load (5" barrel) is Hornady XTP 230gr over Power Pistol to approximate GI Ball velocities. I have a ton of Power Pistol and Bullseye on hand.

I had a problem with setback using XTP 185s a long time ago. Might have been with federal brass...can't remember the specifics except that my top round got shorter after a chambering or two.

What's your preference? Shoot 230s and suck it up? Run the 185s at warp speed? Split the difference with the 200s?

Everybody mentions flash from Power Pistol. Someday I'll have to shoot in the dark and see what I think...for right now that's not a big issue to me.

Wow, "Colt bankruptcy"

Thanks for the update. Off topic but gee now what will old Colts cost?:eek:

I like 185 gr bullets in a smaller carry 45.

I have a Colt Defender and I shoot "normal" GI-type loads through it with either 200 or 230 grain bullets.

I don't have any experience loading for any Colts but every .45acp that I've ever loaded for prefers 200gr bullets. John Moses Browning chose 200gr bullets. It was the US government/military that wanted 230gr, kinda like how they screwed up Eugene Stoner's design.
