From the 2006 novel written by Cormac McCarthy, the same author of No Country for Old Men. In the story the father carries a revolver with him the entire time, only with 2 and then 1 round in it. This thread isn't about SHTF scenarios, we have enough of those locked. I just want you guys to help me identify the revolver. It looks possibly like an old Colt or S&W DA revolver. From the trailer I've identified the following things.

Double action
Firing pin on the hammer

If you pause the trailer, you get a good look at the revolver on the very last part of the trailer. If you can watch it in HD it'll be easier to identify the gun from the details.

...pretty good book, a bit dark and gloomy...not much of a technical nature if you're looking for that.

While reading the book and looking back, it seemed so dark and gloomy I picture it in black and white. It's strange watching the trailer and seeing things in color. It wasn't your typical "shtf but we can rebuild" kind of story. Charlize is hot!

One of the best books I've ever read. The movie looks like standard PC-toe-the-line stuff, of course, but what can we expect?

I'd recommend reading the book, and the audiobook is very well read. I'll probably end up seeing this one just to see how well they stuck with the movie and how much of it is Hollywood bs.

It was a good book. What I liked about it was that it didn't tell you how the world ended. Looks like Hollywood decided to change that and foist a little Global Warming crap on us. Oh well, hopefully that will be just a small part. When the revolver gets down to one bullet, and the decision of who would he kill, that's the tough part of the book. Very emotional.

I read the book and wasn't all that enamored of it. I read "Blood Meridien" and thought it was great. After Blood Meridian, No Country, and now The Road, I realize that McCarthy doesn't know how to end any stories. I realize there is a power to ending with no ending but it leaves me cold and a little pissed to realize I invested so much time not to have any finality to things. McCarthy does seem to do his research and pretty well nails the SHTF scenario aftermath. He seems to know his firearms pretty well and in The Road knows the survival squirrel mentality well.

I don't know how The Road could possibly be an engaging movie. The book is mostly the father and son trudging along and foraging for food. There are maybe two scenes I can recall that will translate well to the big screen...hardly enough to sit still for an hour and a half and watch.

Book and mooooovie reviews aren't really on topic for THR. Since the OPs question was answered - we'll call this one done.
