I recently got an AR-10 which I haven't brought out to shoot yet, but upon inspecting it at home I noticed the charging handle is extremely hard to operate and is sticking when pulled.

Upon breaking it apart, I noticed on one edge of the rail that the enamel is very worn as if it's been rubbing hard against the housing.

Question is, is there something I can do at home such as filing it smoother/down, getting a replacement handle or such, or do I need to do something else to fix it?

Appreciate any help on this guys - thanks:)

If new take it back , it is a machine all parts must work together, if used, talk to the person you bought the firearm from, if so, take it to a gunsmith.

It's hard to say without seeing it whether the charge handle or the upper receiver is the culprit.
Either one could be out of spec.
Or it could just be some sort of finish drip or run as you indicated.

If it's just a glob of finish, I would file it off with a fine cut file.

More then likely though, it will fix itself with proper lube and break-in shooting.

Thanks for the posts guys, I will give it some thought and investigate

RC - When I said enamel, I didn't mean that there was globs of it there, but rather the thin black enamel/paint coat on the rod had been worn down to the bare metal. Will take another look, thanks!
