Well I was shopping at Midway online the other day for some ammo on sale, then I saw the AA 24" upper on sale. One thing led to another and out came the Amex card. And then they even had the 6.5 Hornady SST ammo on sale, it's as if it was just meant to be. I've actually been thinking about one of these since they first came out, a good medium bore hunting round, fits in an AR15, and useful for long range shooting.

I've mounted it on the lower I use for 3 gun shooting to try it out tomorrow, fixed butt stock and a RRA single stage match trigger, along with a 4.5-14 Burris FFII scope I had sitting on the shelf.

I've heard complaints about the fore-end because AA apparently glues them on, but honestly I don't know why I would need to change it, it comes with two studs so plenty of room for a bipod and sling. I actually like the way this one feels, I guess if you were going to add some gadgets then you might want something with additional rails.

That is good lookin'! Been thinking about that 6.5 for a while myself so I'm looking forward to your upcoming range report! I just like the cartridge and I want one...just cannot make myself "jump in".

All I can say is good for you!

I had plans to buy a RRA Predator Pursuit or similar upper for long range target shooting/coyote hunting, but now I'm seriously considering a 6.5 Grendel for that purpose. Let us know how that baby shoots!

Not much of a report, it was freezing cold here today, high 50's low 60's, a very gusty wind from 10-20 mph, and wet. You laugh, but for Houston this is miserable winter weather.

I got out and hung a target at 100 yards using 1 1/2" orange sighters and once I got it sighted in shot four 5 round groups. I didn't bother recovering the targets, because it was muddy and cold, but it looked like all were pretty much inside the sighters so I am going to guess around 1-1/2" groups. When we get back to some normal weather I'll get out again and try to give a proper review.

I have the 20" version with the same free float tube. I have been using it for several years now with no issues, very accurate and the tube is very stable.
