Hello- I just recieved my new AR 20" standard upper in the mail. I love everything about it, and it funtions great, but however, I can't help but notice that my front sight base is canted (or appears to be) ever so slightly to the left when I look down the barrel.

It is a single rail style clamp on, so I am wondering if I should just loosen the screws and move the sucker over or whether I should ship it back and bitch about it. Maybe the a2 handgaurds are off? I know that sometimes over tightening the barrel can cause this, since it is canted to the left, but I would figure that the manufacturer would be able to guage the torque somehow whilst doing it.

I plan on using it primarily with a scope, but having some back up iron sights is nice, I already have a flip up rear that was given to me.

Here is a pic of the FSB: http://i1131.photobucket.com/albums/m546/Tetcht_Seckum/IMG_1934.jpg

Thanks alot for your help.

Two things you need to consider, the hole in the gas block needs to line up with the hole in the barrel and the hole for the gas tube must also line up.
If you loosen the gas block and rotate it so it is aligned and and the holes do not line up you should return it.

Good luck.

Remember that when you revise anything it makes it difficult to prove the product was defective, or the degree to which it was defective, when you received it.

If you are an experienced builder and are confident you can do this yourself, then do so. If you find the holes don't line up, you can return the whole assembly.

Better still, take pictures down the barrel to show the defect (the one posted doesn't) and get the seller to agree to fix it, or negotiate whichever way you want to go.

PS How does it shoot? Fixing it may make it look better but will involve re-zero.

Yeah I was kind of worried if I did that I might wind up cutting off gas flow.

As for how it shoots, I don't really know yet. I used a red dot and shot 20 rounds just to function test it, and it ran without a hiccup.

I was going into town tomorrow to get a riser to put my 4-12 scope on it, since that would tell me alot more about how she shoots than a 4 or 5 MOA dot.

Damnit, that is just my luck. I even told them when I ordered it to make damn certain the FSB is not canted.

When most say their front sight/gas block is canted they are talking about left to right around the barrel. Your picture shows a front to back problem. Put a steel straight edge on top of your gas block and see if it matches the top of your barrel along the length. You may have a slightly miss drilled gas block.

Call the manufacturer and talk to them about it. They may want to see a picture of it. As new they should correct it.
