So I picked up a Colt LE6920 SOCOM from Walmart today

It seems like a good rifle so far. All I've done is break it down and clean it. I've never seen a new gun that had so much grease on it, it was caked on there pretty good. When I field stripped it, I noticed a little spot on the bolt, it looks like it could be white paint or something

Hopefully I'll be able to get to a range here soon and test it out!
It retailed for a hair over $1400. I sold my S&W M&P 15 Sport at a LGS for $400, so I was able to get the rifle for about the cost of a regular 6920.

Range report will follow once I get a chance to fire it.

Congrats, that is a very good rifle. Did it come with that standard M4 stock? becuase they normally come with new Rogers Superstock on the 6920.

On a side note, I Can't believe you only sold your M&P15 Sport for $400... you could've easily sold that for $600. Even the M&P15-22 costs $450 at walmart.

Everything on it (except the Aimpoint and the mag) is how it came. I probably could have squeezed a little more out of him, but it was a used rifle, and I certainly didn't baby it.

Very nice colt, but bad deal on the sport. Live and learn. If you're happy, it is all good.

shoot and have fun.

Good rifle, but I think your dealings in acquiring it were not particularly sage.

Hmmm. I just bought that same Colt under the name M4A1 and the bolt also has that same white paint spot on it. I wonder what it's there for?
Mine didn't come with an optic and the front sling swivel is mounted on the left side, but otherwise it looks the same as the OP's photo.

Wal Mart will never get a dollar from me. No you cant check my darn receipt. And shame on you for asking.

It's called loss prevention. We don't live in Utopian society, and they aren't singling you out. Anyway, that's also totally off topic.

Back to the OP, very nice rifle. As for your M&P Sport, don't sweat it. Yeah, the dealer can only sell a used Sport for $500, but he has to make a little money too. 25% is a small profit margin compared to many other consumer goods. You clearly understand this. I also understand the convenience of getting cash now rather than waiting on a private sale in a market that's full of used ARs right now. You did fine.

Good pick up, good carbine. It will last you. I have never been in a Walmart that sold ARs, hell most walmarts dont even sell guns anymore.

That's a damn fine rifle.

Next time post a rifle like that Sport for sale in the local or sale section of gun boards, you could have found a local buyer quickly if you asked $550 and accepted $500.

Now...get some ammo and mags for that Colt.

jp0319, Wal-Mart began suffering suffering heavy losses in sporting goods sales to Academy Sports & Outdoors when Academy began heavily expanding 5 or so years ago. They quickly found out that they had to put long guns back in to get people in the door to sell all sporting goods. Even if your local Wal-Mart doesn't stock AR-15s and similar rifles, if they sell firearms then they can special order any long gun Wal-Mart sells that's legal in your state.

The choice to shop there or not shop there is a personal decision that's probably outside the scope of discussion for THR.

I know I coulda gotten more out of the rifle, but it's no biggie. The guy didn't gouge on ammo or anything like that during all the craziness and has been very helpful to me in the past, so I don't mind. I switched the sling swivel around due to me being wrong handed. The buying process from Walmart was a new experience for me. I've never filled out an electronic 4473 before, the background check was also automated, no phone call required. Also didn't know that when purchasing a firearm from Walmart, you have to be escorted out of the store. The manager who walked me out was a gun guy as well, and he was disappointed when he found out I couldn't sell him my Sport, due to me being an Ohio resident.

As to Wal Mart asking to see your receipt. A lot of walmart stores have pretty serious loss prevention issues. That is people shoplift there, a lot. I worked as a prosecutor and it was just astonishing to me the number of shoplifting cases that came out of walmart. Typically multiple cases came to our office every single day. And obviously not every incident of someone steeling would make it to our office. If I wanted to question business practices of walmart, asking for a receipt would not be my big gripe.

I also understand the convenience of getting cash now rather than waiting on a private sale in a market that's full of used ARs right now. You did fine.

The gun market differs by geography but around here that thing would have sold within the day, if not the hour, for $500 in a private sale.

The white paint spot is normal. Check "that other forum dedicated to the AR15" and it's mentioned there - I remember reading about it a while back. I think it signifies passing one of the metallurgical tests or something. Can't recall. My 6920 has/had the same thing.

Would that bee www.ar15.com or www.m4carbine.net ?

My 6920 does not have the white dot.

Got out to the range today to get it zeroed, and it was flawless. Only put 60 rounds through it, the first 20 or so in slow 3 round groups, then the rest semi-rapid fire. I had forgotten how much I needed to adjust the irons when zeroing, I wasn't even on paper at 25m. If I hadn't hit the yard stick I was using to hold my targets, I wouldn't have known where I was hitting
