I have enjoyed the Stalker in .308 so much for the last three years that I just had to get a twin in 300 wsm. Put a safari sling on it and a 3x9 Nikon scope. Shooting it this weekend, elk trip next weekend.

I just had to share my joy.

:)

Will get pics in a day or so. Went shooting. Put a box of 180gr power points through it. Not done with the BOSS thing, but close enough if I had to hunt tomorrow. Amazing thing was I shot the .308 some as well. The recoil from the 300 WSM with BOSS was noticably less than the .308. I was shooting 180gr Remington Core-Lokt through the .308. It's the same gun without the BOSS. Now I'm going to have a quandry come deer season again, do I shoot the .308 or the 300?

I like my .30/06 Stalker. You can load that WSM down with H4895 and it will take the place of the .308 with similar recoil assuming they both weigh the same. Use some 130 gr Barnes bullets in place of 150s and it might even kick less. Then you can use the quieter BOSS tube and save the vented BOSS for the elk hunt.

Good luck on the hunt.

I need to update my pix, but here's my BAR MkII 7mm:

I may be in the market for a Stalker/BOSS in .338, depending on if I can handle my new/unfired as yet, Remington 700 / .375 ULTRA MAG!:what:

If it's TOO much, I'll sell/trade it for the new BAR...

I went to the range again today. Shot 20 more rounds through the wsm. It is shooting nice tight groups, even had a couple double holes. What do we call the 8 look? I only get that with my Winchester model 70 .243. Not quite dialed in yet. Oh, I'll need to reload these. Thanks for the info on loading down. I swear the 300 has less recoil than the .308.

Did I understand right that I should get the other BOSS as well?

I wish there were larger magazines for the BAR sporters...

Anyone who owns one, do you know of any good mags that hold 10-20 rounds, or are the 2 or 3 round mags the largest?

"I should get the other BOSS as well?"

I was thinking the WSM could take the place of the .308 for woods deer work. But now I see how much longer the WSM is. I didn't know the .308 Stalker barrel is 20" instead of the ShortTracks 22". So as Emily Latella said, "Nevermind".

But if you don't think the WSM kicks you can use the unported BOSS and make it quieter.

The standared caliber Stalkers like mine have 4 rd mags. The magnums hold 3, and the WSMs hold 2. Some of the ShortTracks and LongTracks hold less because of the composite magazine cover, strange. That hinged magazine cover keeps you from using a longer mag like the Remingtons can. I've never heard of anyone changing the mag catch and adapting other magazines. It's not a battle rifle anyway, although the .308 is several pounds lighter than a M1A.

Well, reason I ask is because I've been looking at the BARs, the 7400s, and a few other models from various companies, trying to find a higher capacity 30-06.
