I got the Blue Python in today. And it was very greasy, very very greasy. So lets do a finish review.

Is it as good as a Old Dimond Back Colt Blueing??? let see

1: I waxed both gun with Rem Wax, used a new cotton terrier cloth to wipe off. So both should be clean of oil and such.

2: I did a bunch of different lighting conditions to compare

conclusion: The Blueing is VERY GOOD, even has a bit of that “Royal Ink” shine too

What you guys think????

and a strange white plastic under the New Pythons cycle release ? anybody know what that is?

It looks very nice. They both look very nice. I can see why you like them.

I am looking forward to your range report.
I rented a New Python at the range, and it shoot OK, but it was Gen1 New Python with the wiggly rear sight

Back to being serious! this is a honest review of the finish. I’m having a steak and looking at the guns finish closely…

There is a wavy pattern on the Colt logo side but not on the serial number side. Very pronounce. This New Colt is a under 5,000 serial number so this tells me, NO HAND POLISHING! before blueing.

So, Old Colt is still better than New Colt

They don't appear to have quite the 'level' of polish of the old guns. What people don't seem to realize is that the old guns were often over-polished and poorly at that. When you go beyond "oooh, shiny" you'll see the dished out screw holes and lettering, rolled over edges and wavy flats. For years, they did a crap job of keeping the flat parts flat and the edges crisp. Today, they are doing a much better job at that and overall the final finish is 1000x better than anything from S&W. We won't even mention Ruger.

It’s interesting to see the finish product of New Colts automated Blueing process, it’s too expensive to hand polish parts. for a $1500 gun. But they are trying! Big Props to New Colt

The side plate is New Colt is Wavy buy the rest of the side is not. The white plastic buffer on the latch is very noticeable. They did fix the rear sight tho, it’s not moving for anything

I’ll take more details photos of flaws I see!

Colt hasn't hand polished in probably over 100yrs. All Pythons were done on buffing wheels. Which was part of the problem with the over-polished examples.

I need to look up “Hand Polishing” for blueing

I looked it up now, that is indeed what it is! Here is a pic of a removed thumb latch from the bottom, showing the plastic insert and a spare insert.
Clever, good idea, it's a wonder they didn't just make it black.
Anyone recall when Smith put a dab of something on the tip of the locking bolt, to avoid the drag line on the cylinder?

Mark, beautiful guns. Really prefer the fit of the stocks on the new one.
How much you want to use either one is a different question....
