I just opened my first box of bullets for reloading. I have a box of Hornady FP/XTP 158 gr for loading 357 mag. Item #35780. Since this is a first for me, I weighed each bullet to see what the actual weight was. Although I know there may be some small variances between my scale and Hornady's scale, the following is what I got. Is this spread of weights typical for a box of bullets?
4 - 157.6 gr
11-157.7 gr
17-157.8 gr
29-157.9 gr
12-158 gr
2 - 158.1 gr
4 - 158.2 gr
8 - 158.3 gr
5 - 158.4 gr
3 - 158.5 gr
2 - 158.6 gr
1 - 158.7 gr
1 - 159 gr
1 - 159.2 gr
The total spread between the bullets was 1.6 grains. I would expect this to be OK but since this is my first time at reloading, thought I would ask.
Thanks

Per SAAMI, the tolerance for lead and lead core bullets greater than 100 gn is +- 1.5%, giving an accepted spread of 155.63 gn to 160.37 gn. Your distribution is well within that spread. I ran a distribution sample for 115gr 9mm from Everglades Ammo a few months ago. My distribution varied significantly from yours...but also remained well within spec.

As Walkalong suggested, I separated the bullets by weight and loaded and shot them in groups...and detected not a bit of difference. I stopped weighing after the first 300 or so.

That's like weighing a finished round of the exact same head stamp, charge weight, bullet type and exact seating depth.
No two will weigh the same! Well, maybe 99.999% of the time they won't.:)

Welcome to THR lots of great people here.
Some spread but not bad at all really, about 50% of them are + or - .1 gr of each other.
Heck the one that was 159.2 may be that heavy because you wiped .1 gr of something off your fingers on it.:)
Getting oil from your fingers on light check weights will cause them to weigh incorrect values, getting finger oil/sweat on the pan can also skew the numbers.
I have tested this a couple times just to prove its true, of course it would have been nicer if I was planning on testing it.....
