This is my new custom made Missouri Skeeter Match Pistol. Real Buckhorn
rear sight. Custom drilled hole in center of barrel. Match "Coon D" trigger.
Hedge grips with bark left on. Whaddy all think? I know, just drool.

With that special Treebark camouflage stock, it looks like a hunting pistol.
It really does look just like genuine 3D tree bark too!

Well.... Ummmm....

That certainly is a VERY interesting pistol there...

But the firing mechanism has me a bit stumped...

What are all the springs, wires, pullies and what-nots for???

Does the thing double as a crossbow or what???

I really would like to know how it fires... it sort of looks like to me, the trigger, pulls on the wire, which pulls through some sort of pully block and tackle, which pulls on this lever thingie, that lowers down towards the barrel in some way... and I kinda can't make out whats going on at the breech end with all that hardware in the way...

Let me guess. you place a standard strike anywhere kitchen match in the lever gizmo next to the breech, you pull on the trigger, which pulls on the wires, which pulls on the breech lever thing-a-ma-boobie, and it strikes and lights the match, then lowers the lit match down to a touch hole and powder pan near the breech... and for good measure, just as the powder touches off, a standard cross bow bolt, affixed above the barrel, also launches at the same time as the barrel fires off??? Is there a grenade launcher option on this model???

Kinda stumped on that one...

The pistol is fired with a short piece of firecracker punk in the clip. It lowers
down into the priming powder. The hole is drilled in the center. One side of
the barrel is just a little thicker than the other that's all.
 
Attach an extension to the stock with a length of string, a hook and a cricket and you'll have the Fishin' Magician!
Even if you don't hook 'em, you just need to lure 'em in and shoot 'em before they get away!
You bet it works! :D

when I was in college we tried to make a match lock, with a hammer that held a strike anywhere wooden match and a frizzen made from the gritty bar on the match box. Couldn't get it to work.

That sounds more like a cross between a match-lock and a wheel-lock. If you would have just used a short length of slow buring fuse, like the author did, it probably would have fired just fine.

I think the neatest thing about that skeeter pistol is the fact that it can double as a fire starter kit... Once you get you game, be it rabbit or squirrel or ground hog, or what have you... if you lay up the kindling in the fire pit, point the pistol at the kindling, about 4" away from the kindling... FIRE... and VIOLA !!! Instant Camp/Cook fire !!!
