Well I finally got to the range with my new P-01.
It performed flawlessly for 50 rounds of Remington 115 gr. MC. I don't shoot worth a damn with it though. It brings back memories of the HK USP Compact 9MM that I sold because I couldn't shoot worth a damn with it.
I'm pertty sure it's me though. Probably anticipation. It kicks a little more than I'm used to. The test firing paper that came with the gun had a 5 shot group that was in two inches from 25 meters. I was shooting from 25 feet and my pattern was spread out over about 12 inches. So I'm pretty sure it's me, and it was probably me with the HK that I got rid of. I'm not a great shooter, but I'm not new either. I'm much better with my S&W 38 spl., or my Browning Buck Mark.

So I'll give it a few more trips to the range and if I can't overcome my problems, then the next step will be to try the DPM Recoil system. I like the feel of the gun, and it worked flawlessly, as I said, but I have to perform better than this with it.

Are your groupings in slow fire from single action? Or is your first shot of the group double action? Perhaps it is the DA/SA transition you're having difficulty with?

The test target is, I am sure, the better indicator of the gun's mechanical accuracy.

All shots were SA, slow fire. I shoot one handed because that's the way I was taught.
I'm pretty sure 'anticipation' is the culprit. I guess it just will take more practice. I need to see this as a 'challenge', and not as a 'problem'. ( Geez, that's some corporate thinking for ya )

The first time I shot my first, I am now on #3, PO-1 I finished the mag, ran the target back, and thought "My God. I have NEVER shot that well."

I have a newer P-01, and for me it was the anticipation on the LONG DA pull that was throwing me off. After about 250 rounds, the trigger pull has improved noticeably.

Some people are more suited to revolvers than autos,
especially DA autos.

I like SA revolvers, but the Taurus Judge does have some
appeal. No real accuracy issues with up-close buckshot.

Should your P-01 not work out for you.

There are plenty of people out there who will buy it for a decent asking price.

I think it is the best CZ pistol in the lineup.
One that fits a wide array of shooters.

Thanks for the report. I am considering the P-01 as my first autoloader bigger than a .22.

The P-01 has a good reputation. But as you can see in my case, 'your mileage may vary'.
Based on the test fire paper sent with the gun, the gun is OK.

wbwanzer,

This is my "personal" suggestion on improving your shooting initially. This is not a be-all-cure-all solution. First, as suggested, get some expert input.

Then, have someone make up some dummy rounds, i.e. rounds like your practice ammo but with a de-activated or used primer and no powder. Mix these up in your live ammo and load your mag. If your jerking, pulling, anticipating, etc., you'll know it when you drop the hammer on a dummy round.

Practice until you are not concentrating on the "bang", but on the trigger pull. This has helped me tremendously in the SA slow fire mode. That P-01 has excellent mechanical accuracy.

Schmeky,

Thanks for the dummy round suggestion. The man that taught me to shoot did something similar with the revolver we were using. He would only load two or three and spin the cylinder, and give it to me. I didn't know when it was going to fire. It was revealing.

There's obviously something wrong here. You oughtta get rid of that sorry thing. Just to be nice, I'll buy it from you for 90% of what you paid for it because mine need company.

If that doesn't appeal to you, keep practicing til you figure it out, and then you're gonna love it. You own one of the very best guns on the planet!

Thanks for the offer to take it off my hands, Old Navy, but I'll stick with it a little longer. ;)

Of my 90 something pistols I have, the CZ P0-1 is my bedside companion. Mine has Wolfe springs and my own honing on the trigger and shoots into just over an inch at 25 yards(prolly MY errors probably shoots one hole groups, but thats rested on bags) with the issue 127+p Wnchester Ranger ammo I keep in it. It is the most accurate 9mm I own or have ever seen and that includes my Sig 210 target pistol , which is close but worth $2000 more! I also keep a Surefire 200 light mounted on it for home defense.I had Comp Tac , make me a belt holster and dual magazine holder for it. Best part is I could replace it if it gets stolen, so it is out of the safe mostly!

My Po1 is my constant companion. Only modification is Crimson Trace lasergrips. Sorry yours isn't working out for you as well, best of luck to getting everything right!

I have a P-01 and keep it with me most of the time. I have the Kadet Kit and shoot it a lot at the range. I also will shoot a .22 right along with my center fire pistols, a couple mags of each alternating. My goal is to get to the point where the sight picture on both guns when they go off is the same. Do you see the spark at the end of the barrel? My golf teacher said he couldn't teach me not to do something, but he could teach me to do something right. Work on getting it right, avoid trying to not do something.
