I have decided to cull down my rifle collection just a bit. I' going to sell off 2 or 3 that I never use and replace them with 1 good all around rifle. here is what I'm looking for:
30-06, modereatly short and handy (19-22 in barrel...dosn't have to be a carbine, but no fly rod types either), modest weight, synthetic stock, stainless, and ACCURATE

I was considering the Kimber Montana, but it isn't available in 30-06. Right now I think the Browning A-Bolt and Steyr ProHunter. Any input is apreciated.
Thanks
Jason

Well. It's not available in 30-06 either but I like my CZ 527 mountain carbine in 7.62 x 39. Bolt action. Weighs in at around 5 lbs, single set trigger.

:sigh:

:)

I'm sure you'll enjoy the new .30-'06, whatever rifle you get.

But sell 2 or 3 guns? Yeah, like that's gonna happen!

Just start saving for a bigger safe, like the rest of us.

Regards.

Actually It probly will. I have myself convinced that I can live with just 5-6 rifles, not counting rimfires. 1 Folding Stock AK, 2 SKS, 3 Weatherby Mark 5 300 mag, 4 Remington 700 30-06 (wood/blued), 5 Lever action 30-30, 6 Marlin camp 9. the 2 or 3 other bolt actions that I have really fill no need or particular want

I have the bases of Fancy, plain, Plinker, "tactical", beater truck gun, and nostalgia, covered. Now I just need one really good all-weather bolt gun. I would dedicate that as my all-around hunting rifle and shoot it almost exclusivly during season.
It really wont hurt my feelings to see 2 or 3 of my other rifles replaced by more vintage S&W revolvers...:p

Try the new Tikka T3

Relatively inexpensive. Accurate and lightweight.
I'd also look at Howa(Weatherby clone) that has a good rep for accuracy and don't forget Savage. Savage is inexpensive, but will outshoot most higher priced rifles.

I'll second the Howa rifles as I was over in Japan when Howa was making Weatherby's and I can vouch for them, they are a great unrecognized bargin on the gun market in my opinion. They can do anything a weatherby can do, in fact my Browning Citori clones made by Miruko are far tighter guns than the Brownings I have looked at and shot!

I havent seen a bad Savage of late either, dont over look them. I have looked hard at the Tikka's but dont care for the protruding mags, however they seem to be well made and are reasonably priced

But alas, Im a Remington 700 kinda guy and they are bound to have one that fits the bill. I have 2 heavily customized 700's one in 300win and 7mm Rem, but my favorite is the 700VLS in 308. Its been one of the best shooting guns I have ever owned!

JMT's...

Forgive me Father for I have sinned.....Now that that's out of the way, I'm going to throw the Marlin MR-7 out there;)

For a good-looking, lighweight and handy bolt gun in .30 caliber, I would recommend the Remington 673 guide rifle in .308 or .300 RSAUM. 22" tube and I think about 6 pounds.

my first deer rifle was Howa 1500 Delux in .300 win mag...I was 15 and worked painting houses all summer to buy it.
Nice to see they are starting to be discovered slightly.

Another vote for the Savage. Take a look at the Weather Warrior series. They are available in the 30-06 cal and they are reasonably priced and very accurate out of the box

Rugger M77 is a great gun, I also like the M77 compact, but I don't think you can get it in '06. Savage Weather Warriors are nice rifles as well. For me, it's just hard to go wrong with a good 700. :D
